Go keelback and train a slf pilot asap to help you out.

trade mission only, cheap type-6 is enough, cheap rebuy, manuverable, FSD evade. if u cant evade FSD interdictor, need to defend itself keelback a combat frieghter. 3x expensive. anyway u need rank faderal to unlock federal dropship, because is better then type-7.

I choose the ASP Explorer because I can run up to 124 cargo with smaller docking platform ( I have a great rep with a couple of parties and making 1 - 5 million credit runs), bypassed the type 6 had enough moo la for the type 7. It has 4 small hard points and 2 large have the same set up as my Viper MK III with two extra minimg lazers, can mine all day if I want to and same fire power. all good but the turn radious. It is a fussy ship (made of peanut brittle), hard to land with out it taking some sort of damage, but easily over looked when you see the paychecks.

Type-6. It's fast, and can jump far. And it's cheap. good for cargo and passenger missions.

And most of all, it's one of the most fun ships to fly, due to it's speed an manouvrability. currently i have 120 mil, but i still fly my T6 , (because i can't stand the asp explorer) untill i can afford a fully upgraded python or orca, just because it's fun. It's not good for fighting though, but good for running away.

Ok u swayed me to the type-6 :D Enjoying running goods around the galaxy, plus maybe learn the new mining techniques when it gets here. Is it worth playing the markets? I know squat about it really, so not sure if it is too profitable. Cheers for the tips folks :)

The type 6 is a good little cargo runner. Maneuverable and cheap

I would actually get a Keelback over the Type 6. Although the T6 is a great ship and I started out with one as a basic trader, I do feel the Keelback makes more sense with how the game is now. Because the Type 6 excels at exploration and trading, the Keelback excells at both, is arguably one of the best entry-level passenger ships, and even makes a decent entry-level Bounty Hunter.

Were I in your shoes, I would buy a Keelback and a set of Passenger Cabins. Passenger runs work much like trading, but with more of a random element. They start out with underwhelming payouts, but once your explorer rank goes up they're extremely lucrative and will slingshot you into better loadouts and let you explore other ships.

Keelbacks can also hunt bounties, if you're interested in that. Their ruggedness and fighter bay make up for their lack of agility somewhat, and they can carry decent firepower. I would avoid small fighters because you'll never catch them, but against other similar-sized ships you should do pretty well. I can see a Keelback decimating an Asp, for example, and Asps give tasty bounty payments.

Interesting comment, perhaps have both? Im thinking the Keelback might make a great mining vessel as it has the option of an onboard fighter. Is there a limit to how many ships you can own?

Fighters aren't as useful for mining as you might think. Contrary to what the game tells you, the best rocks are well outside inhabited space. Pristine Metallic rings don't have resource extraction sites, and you'll rarely ever see NPCs. None of my mining ships carried weapons.

As for ships, you can have as many as you'd like. The main limit is costs, both the actual financial cost invested in the ship and difficulty modding it. For entry-level ships like the T6 and Keelback that's negligable, you can easily have both. It only becomes a question at endgame, when you're weighing up dropping a billion credits, a hundred hours of gameplay and a whole lot of Experimental Mods onto a Cutter or Corvette.
