Elite Dangerous

Do I really have to re-unlock all my engineer blueprints *again*?
Today I finally got around to buying a Krait, and went to get it engineered. I'd gathered all the materials I thought I would need, and had already unlocked almost all the engineers and reached Tier-5 with them.

And then I found that, instead of just buying the upgrade that I'd unlocked almost two years earlier, I would have to buy every tier of the upgrade. Which would mean farming four extra sets of resources.

Is there any way to avoid this? Because I'm not sure I'm willing to go through this again, for literally every blueprint I want to use in future.

You don't need to re-unlock the engineers - they are still at the same level you left them.

But you will need to engineer your new modules from level-1. You can't apply the level-5 engineering to a new module right away.

Alright. At least we can exchange mats now, that should make it livable.

Yep. Most of the mats for lower grades you get automatically, as you collect mats for the 5th grade, anyways.

The real solution is to just not grind to begin with. Only bother with engineers when you have the mats. Stop going out of your way for things. Nothing in a video game is real. Those fake video game space ships with the fake video game upgrades do nothing for you. They don't even allow you to anything new within the game! Just play, have fun, and progress naturally. Game lasts longer that way anyway. Doesn't everyone complain about how "short" and "incomplete" games are these days? You ever wonder why? Because you make them that why by grinding like they are your job!

Precisely! You will collect most of those mats by just playing the game. And when you got the most of them, you can spend one-two hours to collect or exchange for the missing ones.

I recently reinstalled the game aftert a year break. How do you exchange materials? Can I buy them at a station?

Yes certain station's let you exchange certain material's, I believe there is three different types of trader?
Raw, manufactured and encoded.

There are material traders at many stations now. Look on Inara to see what stations have them and what kind they trade.

Makes things much easier.

Wolfey it’s actually a lot better now than it used to be. No more random garbage. You just need the materials for the upgrades.
Wolf Dec 1, 2018 @ 5:40pm
if you previously had a grade 5 module, you can upgrade it from grade 4 if you bring the module to the engineer's base. but if you want to use a remote blueprint, you have to clear the old blueprint and start from grade 1 :(

There are spots for engineered mats:
Davs Hope for mats,
Crashed conda sites for raw,
Jameson crash for data.
