Chieftain or Challenger for Bounty Hunting
I'm coming back after a really long time away. And after looking over the new ships the Alliance' combat ships look perfect for me. I've always loved the Vulture's slow-tanky-agile playstyle, and I've also owned and loved a Federal Gunship. And so I feel pretty safe buying into Alliance hardware, especially with my access to discounts.

I want a PVE brawler, something built for short-range Bounty Hunting and especially large prey like Clippers and Anacondas. But at the same time obviously being able to defend myself against small fry. I'm not a great pilot, I tend to rely on rugged ships to tank hits rather than evasive skills to dodge them, which is probably why I like my Corvette and FDL so much.

Brass Tax, for a pilot like me would you recommend the Chieftain or the Challenger?

I suppose all that is reliant on Bounty Hunting still being viable. It is, right? They didn't do away with my favourite profession while I was gone?

They're both pretty good honestly. When the challenger docks it looks like a dog taking a crap, so theres that benefit. Either can also be outfitted to fight 'goids.

I own all 3 alliance ships, chieftan challenger and crusader, personally crusader is my favorite but I don't think its better than challenger or chieftan.

Chieftan is more agile and Challenger is (a tad) more tanky and (a tad) less evasive btw.

Given I've already got a monstrously tanky Fed Corvette(monstrously tanky as of a very long time ago, when Engineer Mods were only a few months old) I think I'll go with the Chieftain, especially since it's more customisable. Thanks.

You've certainly put my mind at rest, they're clearly all viable and the gaps between them aren't enormous.

Give the Krait a shot. I think it’s superior to either the Chieftan or Challenger.

I fully plan to, although I was eyeing it for a specialist Robigo boat. Although I honestly don't know much about it, except that I really like how it looks. And that it naturally slips under the radar to a degree.

It has the identical firepower to the Python. The agility of the Vulture. Plus a fighter bay. Way less shields than the Python though. But the agility and fighter bay more than make up for that.

The thing I really like is the visibility. Pretty near the AspX in that regard. It’s a lot of fun in a fight. Definitely worth a try.

*Whistle* That's quite a combination. And it sounds like a really fun playstyle, too. And I've heard we'll be getting a Krait Phantom soon with potentially a 60 LY jump range. Looks like a ship to have, maybe as a replacement for my Anaconda - a ship I've never found a comfortable use for.

not really that much weaker shields... one 6 SCB slot less but you get the fighter hanger instead...

Its not as manauverable as a vulture. I was actually a little disappointed with the Kraits pitch. Its closer to the python. That said, it is a monsterously capable craft. Im looking forward to giving the krait phantom a spin.

Your vulture must be damn slow

You must not have engineered your Krait. And I don’t know if it’s really as agile as the Vulture or not. But it’s an extremely agile ship. Just making that point is all.

Maybe if you have D rated thrusters. It’s like night and day compared to the Python. Now I have G5 DD on both my Python and Krait so I am not comparing stock.

It is a bit peculiar in handling, was somewhat disappointed at first too, but once you realize how insanely well it responds to additional engine pips, it is a blast.

Needs some getting used to, and you really want a manual thrust axis to make the most of it, but damn that ship flies some really tight circles for its weight class.
Boomer Nov 23, 2018 @ 7:24pm
Yeah. I know its a great ship, no denying that. I was just having trouble with the whole 'its as manauverable as the vulture', when its default Movement profile is 3 points off being identical to the Python.

After engineering, almost anything is possible with any ship though yeah.
