Best place to farm wake scans :: Is this still valid?
Hi!

According to this post from :https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/382914-Best-place-to-farm-wake-scans-for-FSD-range-mod

Go to a famine system and look for a "distribution center" signal. Enter and you will see Type 9s sitting there and small ships constantly waking in and out. By far the best place to farm DWEs in my experience. I haven't had much trouble finding distribution centers, but I have heard that not all famine systems have them so you might have to try a few before you find one.

How Do I find a famine system and what is a distribution center?
Also, is this strategy still the best?

you can filter system in ur galaxy map or just use https://eddb.io/ , the distribution center will be a point of interet wich will appear in your navigation tab, but keep in mind u can only see them within 1000 ls, once there u can scan the ships that keep jumping in and out of the area with the wake scanner
You can do what Chro said or you can use the galactic map filters (famine systems are shown in pink).

Yes, distribution centers in famine systems are still a great way of getting lots of wake scan data (and engineering mats, if you choose to destroy those T9s).

Alternatively, go to the Jameson crash site and fill up on G5 data, then trade for DWEs. It's not necessarily any quicker, but is much easier.

About 5 times as fast as scanning wakes at a distribution center, maybe more if you have one of those super fancy PCI-e SSD drives. :)

Yep. Just find a spot, from where you can scan all 4 data beacons, and board-hop ~10 times.

NVMe drives work just fine. ;)

You can scan frame shift wakes *anywhere*, for *any* ship that makes a jump.

As for looking for *specific data* - well, then certain conditions apply.

just out side a station i found to get alot. just make sure you are out side of request docking

Yeah sitting outside a station... but INARA have a great resource for this here[inara.cz]

For example Atypical Disrupted Wake Echoes - you have a higher chance of getting them in boom state systems.

I know this post is old AF but who reported the link as malicious? It's a link to official forums for the damn game.

On closing, any high-pop system with high traffic is a good place for farming wake scans.
(system state boom, expansion etc; refer to the wiki for more information)

Just park your ship near the station entrance and scan away.
