Mining need surface scanner?

Do i need a Detailed Surface Scanner for a mining build? or is it only for exploration?

If you want to find hotspots - yes, you need the DSS.

Yes, get it. I used online sources to find prestige rings of ice, then scanned them to find hotspots. When I go back, the hotspots automatically apear, without the need to rescan. (Idk if they reappear if I don’t have the detailed surface scanner on the ship, but yes, it’s very helpful! I usually go near the center, then select the planet and fly towards it. Going in a straight line is the best way to make sure you’re not going in circles.

They don't. So don't leave your DSS at home, even if you re-visit a previously probed place.

and even when you found the hot spot you will still need it for latter use to find the spots again.

so always equip dss , mod it for long distance helps to see pirates coming
