Incorrect Cockpit Mode Press to Switch
Hi guys, after about a 2 year hiatus from Elite Dangerous, I played again today and while in combat I was not able to shoot my weapons. An error kept coming up the top right panel "Incorrect Cockpit Mode Press to Switch" and my weapons wouldn't fire. They also appeared blue on my HUD.

Because I've been away from the game for 2 years, I have no idea what this means or how to change it. Can anybody help?

Thanks

There were quite some changes to the game since then. As about your problem: there are now two modes, exploration (straight HUD lines, blue by default), and combat (curved HUD orange lines).

You have to bind a HUD mode switch button in your controls configuration, so you can switch to the combat mode.

Go to the controls configuration. All new controls will be marked with (!) until you save it.

I'm pretty sure to switch cockpit mode is "M" by default.

I really wish they'd remove this. Absolutely no need for multiple cockpit modes. We have fire groups already

Or at least they should remove the warnings spam for inappropriate mode modules. This way we can actually use different modules bound to the same fire group, and not being annoyed, or conditioned to ignore all warnings.

What's the point of cockpit modes anyway? The only difference apart from what modules you can use (instead of always being able to use all of them) i found is that planets are covered in the blue grid in scaning mode after you mapped them, which is rather annoying tbh.

They probably want to separate discovery and combat weapons. It will work well, as soon as they get rid of the incorrect mode notifications spam.

There must be a mode where neither your chaff nor point defence work, and when you get attacked and forgot to switch, you have a problem.

Right now, the distinction is pretty useless. My guess is that they had originally intended to show way more information in discovery mode, then ditched those plans as FSS and DSS evolved, and now we're stuck with vestigial functionality that doesn't make much sense.
