But to scan the nav beacon you just drop out at it and then target it and wait for the scan to complete.
This will tell you where to look for the target, usually a mission specific signal source. Fly to the destination and look around, or i presume it will be findable with the FSS now.
In here, first tab (navigation), target < Nav Beacon >
then drop out in it (like you drop in for stations, USS and whatnot)
Again bring your left panel, but there you now go into the 3rd tab (Contacts)
Once in there, target once again < Nav Beacon > and simply point your ship's nose toward the target, it will scan automatically for you, wait for the scan to complete.
Get back in first tab (navigation), find your mission target in there, select it and fly to it.
Hope it helps.
You can use the FSS to find the mission target, but if it's in a populated system, it's usually faster to just rescan the nav beacon if you're close. With the FSS, you will have to sift through all the other USS just to find it, and while you're doing that, you're a sitting duck.
To scan a nav beacon, just drop in to it like it's a station. Once you enter normal space, just target the nav beacon like you would another ship, and it will begin scanning on its own. When it's done, jump back in to supercruise and check your nav panel for a blue missioin target source.
You drop in destination system.
There are 3 ways to find your target:
1) Find Nav beacon in your 1 tab(the one, that shows you system objects. Jump from supercruise into it. Target the beacon and wait till your ship scans it. After you get notification - find your target signal on 1 tab. You target will be there.
Cons&pros
+your target can try 1v1 you while you scan nav beacon
+its one of the fastest way to find your target
-your target probably will wait you on the mission signal with an escort of few ships
2) Use " to activate your system scanner. Set your scanner on the lowest lvl and look for orange signal point. Your target will be there.
Cons&pros are the same.
3) Fly around the system and scan every ship(eagle/viper/fas/aspX mostly) until you find one with "wanted.... mission target" blue markers in left-bottom box. Then follow him, interduct with fsd interductor(must be bought, installed and used manualy) and kill.
Cons&pros:
+your target will be alone(even if it is in a wing - its wings will follow after delay)
~can be faster then first two(you mostly don't need to fly 3k away. Depends on how fast you can find and catch your target)
- can take some time to find your target or catch it
- your target can try to run away from you
Sometimes, you will get assasination mission without your assasination target. Than you need to wait in supercruise after you drop in your destination system. Wait till an npc contacts you and asks you to drop out of sc with him. Then you need to target him, wait till he drops out, target his fsd trail and drop into it. Wait till he gives you your targed destination and go there.
I've often been attacked by them as soon as i drop into the nav beacon.
