How to catch damn pirates?
So i took mission to assasinate pirate lord. I fly to designated system, and sometimes he turns out to interdict me first, which is fin, but problem is, when i submit, i see that he is not around, and radar is clean...how come?

And of course main question is, how do i find him in a system in a first place? I know that the mission says, scan the nav beacon; but how do i scan it?

I tried just doing discovery scanner it says something like 20 planets found etc.. nothing related to mission, i also have D-link and composite scanner and tried to park near nav beacon and scan it with d link scanner but when i press button nothing happens... somoene can tell mow how to properly scan for pirates and quickly find them? what tools to use and how?

thanks.

Sounds like you're being hit by a bug.

But to scan the nav beacon you just drop out at it and then target it and wait for the scan to complete.

This will tell you where to look for the target, usually a mission specific signal source. Fly to the destination and look around, or i presume it will be findable with the FSS now.

hit the key that brings up your left panel in cockpit.

In here, first tab (navigation), target < Nav Beacon >
then drop out in it (like you drop in for stations, USS and whatnot)

Again bring your left panel, but there you now go into the 3rd tab (Contacts)
Once in there, target once again < Nav Beacon > and simply point your ship's nose toward the target, it will scan automatically for you, wait for the scan to complete.

Get back in first tab (navigation), find your mission target in there, select it and fly to it.
Hope it helps.

Occsionally the target will go to another system. Usually indicated by a Navigation Beacon error in your space mail. Check your mission carefully, it will have updated with the name of another systema and an that will contact you in system. Jump to that system, flight away from the sun then slow after a bit. Wait for an NPC to send you a message, then they'll tell you to meet them out of super cruise. Check contacts for their low wake.

If you submitted to interdiction, and he didn't drop in, then he either lost you or dropped out too soon. Once you're tethered to him, he can't jump out until he stops and waits for his FSD to cool. Normally, if I enter a system and the target is waiting on me, I slow down to idle and drop out of supercruise. It will take him a couple minutes, but they always find me.
You can use the FSS to find the mission target, but if it's in a populated system, it's usually faster to just rescan the nav beacon if you're close. With the FSS, you will have to sift through all the other USS just to find it, and while you're doing that, you're a sitting duck.

To scan a nav beacon, just drop in to it like it's a station. Once you enter normal space, just target the nav beacon like you would another ship, and it will begin scanning on its own. When it's done, jump back in to supercruise and check your nav panel for a blue missioin target source.

You drop in destination system.
There are 3 ways to find your target:
1) Find Nav beacon in your 1 tab(the one, that shows you system objects. Jump from supercruise into it. Target the beacon and wait till your ship scans it. After you get notification - find your target signal on 1 tab. You target will be there.
Cons&pros
+your target can try 1v1 you while you scan nav beacon
+its one of the fastest way to find your target
-your target probably will wait you on the mission signal with an escort of few ships

2) Use " to activate your system scanner. Set your scanner on the lowest lvl and look for orange signal point. Your target will be there.
Cons&pros are the same.

3) Fly around the system and scan every ship(eagle/viper/fas/aspX mostly) until you find one with "wanted.... mission target" blue markers in left-bottom box. Then follow him, interduct with fsd interductor(must be bought, installed and used manualy) and kill.
Cons&pros:
+your target will be alone(even if it is in a wing - its wings will follow after delay)
~can be faster then first two(you mostly don't need to fly 3k away. Depends on how fast you can find and catch your target)
- can take some time to find your target or catch it
- your target can try to run away from you

Sometimes, you will get assasination mission without your assasination target. Than you need to wait in supercruise after you drop in your destination system. Wait till an npc contacts you and asks you to drop out of sc with him. Then you need to target him, wait till he drops out, target his fsd trail and drop into it. Wait till he gives you your targed destination and go there.

Ive done exactly 4 of these missions recently and at no time have I had to scan or search - as soon as I finish jumping to the target's system, I get both verbal and written confirmation that the target is in the system. Targeting him, or more specifically, the mission signal, and heading towards him, usually by a planet, and he interdictes me before I get to him, each of the four times.

I've often been attacked by them as soon as i drop into the nav beacon.
