Dolphin vs. Orca - Passengers
So I'm thinking of getting into passenger missions, but I'm on the fence as to which ship I should use to get started. I have approx 80 mil credits and I can afford either one, but if I can get away with buying the (much) cheaper ship that would be nice. Is the difference in the payouts between each ship significant? I would think so, but thought I'd ask people more experienced with it than I am before sinking 48 mil into the Orca.

The Orca can equip more stuff, and have bigger passenger cabins. It's faster, too.

Other than that both ships are pretty similar. You might want to start with the Dolphin, to get the feeling of tourist sightings missions. And you can top-grade it with your funds.

because you are unfamiliar with the workings of pax missions the dolphin would be the much better choice
none of the Sauds are actually the best ships at the job as it goes

With decent passenger missions once you are allied you can make enough to pay for your ship pretty quickly.

Try the Dolphin and see if you like the runs.

I wiill tell you this about the Orca, it is fast and handles like a sports car/race car but in a space ship.

Do some engineering on iit and it will be a ship you will always want to keep, it is a joy to fly.

I sold my first one because I outgrew it in rank and money that caN BE MADE IN A BIGGER SHIP.

But I missed it, and with FD nerfing a certain type of passenger mission so that it is almost impossible to do it in a large ship now the Orca is perfect.

If you get an Orca you will not be making a bad choice by any m,eans and it will pay for itself quiickly.

The orca is actually my favorite ship in the entire game for non-PVP purposes. When A-rated, it has a boost speed of >500m/s WITHOUT any engineering, and with engineering I'm pretty sure in can outrun literally any other ship.

I like the dolphin's design slightly better, but because it's able to equip a class six luxury bay as well as a class five FSD booster, the Orca is hands down the best passenger liner for long distance trips.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to go with the Dolphin and see how I like the missions. If they're good, I'll just sell it and invest in the Orca. I really appreciate it, I know many of you are old hands at this.

No it can't.

Not really in a race scenario, more in an outrunning pirates scenario.

Pretty sure there's no ship in the game that can go 500m/s with more than two pips in weapons, but I could be wrong.

It is easy to verify this on Coriolis when you compare different ship build with your intended Orca build.

I hope that you realize a module called Enhanced Performance Thrusters exists. This can be put on smaller ships and it makes them fast.

But I was always a fan of putting this to practice. We can enact this scenario of yours ingame. I have 2 combat-fitted ships that will outrun whatever Orca build you have in the shipyard. When I get back to my proper PC in 2 weeks, I am ready to test this.
