Why cant I just land on this station...
Im having trouble jumping to stations and when I do im still about 14 km away... My ship isnt fast enough to catch up to it im at full speed and the station is getting farther away instead of closer. I dont get it ive been at this for 3 hours jkumping around in the same system trying to land on this space station and I cant.

What am I doing wrong. Ive watched the tutorials and they are just casually flying up to it.

I just read an old thread about a bug and he even mentioned the same station Mawson station. I cant catch it is this a bug that ive been wasting my life on ? Or should I be able to catch up to this station and land I have missions there. I really want to get involved in this game but I feel like im just wasting my time at this point.

Use Supercruise assist. the sidewinder you start with SHOULD have it fitted as standard.

You need to be IN supercruise already to use it.

In Supercruise, set your throtlle to 0 (so that you come to a dead stop) then go to the nav panel (the left hand panel) and highlight the station. instead of just locking on the target station there should be a button that says supercruise assist (it's the SECOND button from the left on the nav panel) click this and you should get a message on screen telling you to align your ship to the target station, when you do this, your ship will automatically set your throttle to the blue zone and fly to the station, it will also automatically drop your ship back into normal space approx. 8-8.5lm from the station

Thank you kind sir but my ship is out of fuel now so im stranded in space and im out of patience for tonight. I might give another try tomorrow. I really just want to know why I cant catch this station though and why sometimes in certain systems it seems to jump ok than others I have difficulty and the game says I dont have a target locked.

It will come. it took me about 4 hours just to get the basics of the game and that was when there were no new starter zones and the tutorials were REALLY terrible (they HAVE improved a lot, i promise you)

I mean im getting it but I just dont understand whats up with this station. OR how a new player is suppose to dock with it. Is this normal? Are there stations that move extremely fast and are only accessible with a faster ship? If not then maybe its a bug and if so they shouldnt have it as a new player mission area. Or they should at least have something in game to research the stations so I know its in a super fast orbit and whatnot.

After you have called the fuel rats to refuel you (they do this for free) switch on orbit lines and follow it in the opposite direction, rest assured, it'll catch up with you. If you think that station is fast, feel free to drop by miterland hollow.

Dropping out of supercruise when you are 1Mm or below from the station should take you right before it. Were you dropping out earlier or something?

Weird. So after closing the game down the third time and launching it again I was able to reach that station no problem so maybe it was a lag issue or something latency related. Im not sure but I was able to jump to it then fly right into it without any issues.

It's a known bug. Sometimes, the game simply refuses to drop you into a station instance properly - it drops you down with zero speed relative to the planet, rather than the station. The station is, of course, moving in its orbit at orbital speed, several thousand m/s, so if it does this, you can never catch it.

For regular stations you can land at, a reboot will usually fix it. There are some non-landable installations and temporary POIs like Combat Zones which "run away from you" and it's not solvable; you simply learn to ignore those ones.

Can the Fuel Rats even help here ? Mawson dock is in one of the starter systems, you can't enter them after you've left. So unless the Rats keep a newbie account at hand with a fuel-rigged Cobra or something, they probbaly can't help :/

1. Set buttons for speed 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, and 0% ( I use 10,9,8,7,6)
2. when approaching a station. AT SEVEN SECONDS IMMEDIATELY GO TO 75%.
you may slow a bit and your time increases becuase you are going slower and have to recalculate time, also as you get closer to big bodies, gravitational forces will cause "resitance" and make you go slower.

I was going to recommend you try the tutorial again, since it seemed like you weren’t selecting the station in super cruise, but no? I haven’t heard of or experienced this bug before. You had the station selected, flew to it, dropped out of super cruise, and it just, flew away from you..?

Yep. I found an old post saying this was an issue back in the day and they even mentioned the same station that it was happening to me with. Started with M in one of the first few systems.

It was driving me batty lol... Every jump would keep me about 14 km from the station sometimes I could get into about 11 but there was no way to catch up to it from there with the throttle full. At full throttle in about 2 minutes I would see the distance get farther by about 10-20 km. It was very confusing.

Thankfully I had about 0.1% fuel like literally a sliver of a bar left and when I relogged I was ablew to jump and fly into it to refuel no problem but thank you for the idea.

I had something similar happen a long time ago, but I assume my experience was by design. I was trying to reach a stellar body, like a black hole, and eventually I noticed that I was getting closer, but then going backwards. My ship was being repelled, as though my a magnetic force. In my case it was just the developer making sure I didn't get closer to something they wanted me kept away from, but your situation definitely seems different.

Also if you run out of fuel, you can turn off all your modules to save fuel. You can often craft extra oxygen, if you keep the chemicals stocked.
