Joystick problems
I bought the game earlier this year.
I wanted to play it in VR. At that time I had no problems using my Saitek Cyborg evo. Everything ran smoothly. Now after a long time I finally found time to continue playing. Now I only have problems. Is it Steam, or Windows 10? I don't know. My joystick is not recognized correctly. I see it in the configuration of the game, but all movements or switches have no effect later in the game. I can play something with Oculus Touch, but that's not very good. I even reinstalled the game.

It is Steam. Disable the generic controller support in the Steam controller configuration. Steam often intercepts and doesn't pass correctly the joysticks.

Thanks, I've actually tried that before. It's just strange that it worked so well at the beginning of this year. I was also able to put various functions on my joystick buttons. But now I've lost track because there seems to be only one generic joystick left where you can't configure buttons.
You can try to launch the game directly from the game's folder, outside of Steam. You wouldn't be playing in VR, but you can verify if your joystick will work again, to know for sure if it's the Steam problem or not.

Good idea. So Steam is not involved if I launch the game directly.
And later, when I've established that Steam is the cause, what do I do to get the original old configuration back?

Maybe try to force the "no generic gamepad support" in a Steam's per game settings? Go to the game in your Steam library, and in the "Manage Game" there is a "Controller Options" menu. Switch from "Global Settings" to "Forced Off". At least, it was helpful in the case of this problem. Worth a try.

Thanks, I'll try that again later...

Later:

When starting ED directly with the launcher, I can only find the generic joystick. My Saitek is not displayed as an option, although it has been recognized, configured and calibrated by Windows. But then it doesn't work in the program. I also remember that I had many more options to configure all the joystick keys. For example, I could configure the side thrusters much easier. Meanwhile, I think ED's programmers have changed something. Maybe the joystick defaults aren't being properly adopted from the Windows configurations..

What else can I try?

first off dolphin hush as you are showing you do not know a single thing at all. please don't help anyone unless you know what you are doing and talking about please cause you are confusing this person and you don't appear to have any actual knowledge you are just making things more difficult for medt.

frontier never bothered to add in a system that auto detects what you use.

They made a preset of options which don't help at all

so just pick the generic joystick then from there check each of the button assigned

make sure they are correct and you can make adjustments which you will be doing yourself

just manually set the joystick buttons to what you want.

This shouldn't have been made difficult for you i am sorry you get people that make things difficult for you.

If you need more help just ask. I've played this game when it was released and for anyone to blame steam cause steam only sells the game and is a launcher for them they don't have anything to do with games in this sense at all.

The controller support is frontier they made changes.

Unless you are using a console controller support no longer will be supported on PC/MAC

which kind of does suck but again it has nothing to do with steam they only sell the games.

Medt question

did you alter any of the text files in the ed directory? if so you might need to delete them and then do a check integ file on the game.

cause controller support with a PC has also been an on and off issue with elite dangerous.

again you can try and manually input the key binds yourself and see if that will work.

A couple of posts deleted. Please stop the bickering, discuss the topic.

I see the possibility to select the generic joystick, but unfortunately I still can't use the joystick in the game.
Of course I'd much rather use a joystick for flying than the keyboard or my gamepad.

And please remember that I want to play the game in VR, so it's not very easy for me to see any keys on the keyboard. ;)

I'm sorry if I've caused any problems here. I'm just looking for solutions to my problem.
