The Trip to Sagittarius A*
I'm starting to think I'm not cut out for this exploration stuff, but I want to try everything once. This is my first big trip outside of the bubble. I started out thinking I might be able to make it to Beagle Point, and was enjoying it at first. Now I'm a tiny bit under halfway to Sagittarius A* and feeling really drained.

I'm not sure whether I should turn around or keep going. Or if I should maybe stop by Colonia? I'm probably a couple hours away from the Neutron fields by now. So I'm hoping that might shake things up when I get there.

I listen to music and youtube videos in the background, and read forum posts in between jumps, etc. But nothing's really helping break the monotony of it all. I was just wondering if anyone had some advice for how to not go mad over the remainder of this trip, or about whether or not I should turn back.

I can just say one thing:
JUST DO IT!!
Don´t give up. Make a stop when you bored and flying arount the system. Land on a planet, fly to a Station. DISCOVER!!! The way is the finish.

or you can play on your handy. But don´t give up!!

I'd love to be able to land on planets, it'd probably help seeing as it's all I can really do this far out, until I maybe get a bit closer to Colonia. Unfortunately I don't have Horizons yet so I don't think I can. :(

Still, it'd feel like a waste if I made it halfway and stopped there, so I do really wanna keep going! But I think Beagle Point is out of the question, haha.

Hmm.... already half way to the center? Not that bad for a first run.
Whats your ship and configuration? ED +Horizon is on sale right now.... so i really do recommend to get it.

I might get Horizons real soon here.

I'm flying an Asp Explorer with all D modules, aside from the FSD, which is A rank. My jump range is about 35.6 LY so that's not too bad, I think. Brought an overly expensive Fuel scoop and an AFM unit, as well as an Advanced Discovery Scanner and Detailed Surface Scanner.

I started trip today to Colonia...6hours of gameplay...anaconda 76ly jump range with neutron speedway...i just need 25 more jumps...under 150 the whole trip.Im hauling that 28 occupied escape pods for that cannibal engineenier....

Thats not a bad config for your ASP. But now i can answer your question: Forget Beagle Point (on this first trip).
Finish your trip to Sag A* if it is not too boring already. Maybe use neutron boost to reduce your total jumps but beware.... while it is not too hard to charge your FSD you can do it wrong and die. Check some youtube videos on "how to supercharge FSD" before attempting to do it yourself. Also keep an eye on its condition: Repair at ~80% or earlier. Do not waste AFMU for anything else.

The expensive fuelscoop is no wasted money, you'll get the full price back whenever you decide to sell it, no credit loss.

Fly safe... or don't :-)

You should plot about 2 nutrons ahead, with a decent build you can get about 1000ly without having to replot. I'd say maybe 500ly with the current build you have. keep at it tho. stick on some music or have a break.
Saying that without an afmu its risky buisness as it will gradually ware down the fsd.

Not everyone is an explorer. I live vicariously through the screenshots of others. Just need a spherical screenshot system for VR...

Just in case you weren't aware of it.

Whether or not you should turn around? I think you have to ask yourself "why am I doing this?" If you're doing it just to reach sgr a*, then there isn't much you can do about the monotony and it'll only get worse. If you're actually trying to explore, then generally you should be looking around any given system at celestial body stats or visual features and keeping yourself occupied that way. Really, only you can answer that question.

Guess its up to you OP, I had a similar ship on my first (and so far only) Colonia run. I explored a lot on the way there (there are some great nebulea and views) and back. When I was there I traded a bit but hankered for 'home' so decided to return to the bubble rather than head in. I also found out that the 2nd 3.x update is going to add stuff for us explorers, so am kinda waiting for that.

Oh Horizons adds to the game, its just not worth the full price.

You can stop off at nebulas along the way and do some exploration. Land on some planets to break up the monotony if you have Horizons, etc.

Remember you are out there exploring not just trying to make a speed run from A to B.

I understand the feeling OP. I did a loop from Sol to Sag A* to Colonia and back to Sol and it was difficult to stay motivated. I am a combat pilot at heart but I did managed to make it interesting by checking out weird binary star systems and going out of my way to look for blackholes and other unique planetary bodies. Sag A* is worth the visit. It is so different from other blackholes just on size alone. Flying in the system is really trippy and I honestly got kinda lost trying to figure out how far I was from the signularity. Kinda terrifying after all the travel time to worry about dying to the blackhole. One thing that helped me be motivated is that once you return you will likely have millions of credits in exploration data and most of the exploration ranks completed from the single trip.

SRV donuts, lots of them.
Get out of the ship for a bit and trash the SRV.
Do some flight assist off drifting in some asteroids too.
Talk about your journey here with us each day will make it much easier.
I hope to see updates from you.

The thing is is that it's all the same, each system is almost identical to the one before it, each station is basically the same as the one before it, and it gets old fast.

But if you set the goal and quit it might drive you crazy, but after all, it is just a game, so you do not have to spend many mnay hours just doing the same thing over and over just to get there and see almost the same thing you saw in the very first system you started the trip in, except maybe more stars.

I used to fancy going to these places and watched a few you tube videos and saw the results when they got there.
I figured they were so much like the system I called home it would be rather stupid (FOR ME) to make hundreds, or over a thousand jumps to see basically what I've already seen around home.

Save for a few nebulas, etc...

Black holes in ED are very meh.
