To launch it I do the following.
1. Put the headset on
2. Windows MR app should start automatically and take you to the VR home.
3. Open a desktop window.
4. Open steam.
5. Navigate to Elite in your library
6. Click play, and click launch Elite in Steam VR mode
You will find you might have to also click on the open window on the monitor with your mouse when it starts in order for it to get controller focus.
I play with an XBox 360 controller and wireless keyboard.
Also note in the next release of Windows coming soon:
This Fall’s update of Windows will bring some great new features to Mixed Reality!
• Flashlight - a new capability to view what’s happening in the real-world around you. Great for finding your drink or keyboard while playing a game.
• New Quick Actions menu - lets you access lots of capabilities such as photo or video capture while staying immersed in a VR game.
• SteamVR titles in Start Menu - SteamVR games now appear in your mixed reality Start menu and can be launched directly from within the headset, and you can easily access the SteamVR dashboard from Quick Actions.
• Use WMR with no monitor - Support for using mixed reality without a monitor connected (once already setup in backpack PC scenarios) and simultaneous audio streaming to both your headset and desktop speakers to improve demo and commercial deployments of mixed reality.
If I launch elite from steam on the desktop without launching wmr for steam before I got an" error 108 the hmd is not detected" if I run the wmr for steam before and then launch elite in vr it launch on my monitor but not on the headset.
Itried with te star wars droid vr game and I can launch it both ways without any error.
Thank you for the info about the windows update when is it supposed to come?
It doesn't work that way
can you explain
Works for me anyway.
@WRONGTURN I wish I could but Ican't see it anywhere in the settings...
@Captain Oscar yeah that's what I'm doing but it doesn't work I get a steam vr loading scrren : the grey romm with a picture of the game loading in the background but the game launch on the monitor only.
So WMR for steam in beta , steam vr in beta. Launch steam vr. Then from the desktop launch the game in ed profiler with the settings of the capture. Then launch the game with the mouse in the ED launcher.
And OMG the game is absolutely stunning in VR can't believe it!
I'm having a strange and aggravating problem. My "target the ship ahead" (the "T" key) does not work well at all when on the Dell WMR visor, but it works fine when I play the game in desktop. Still trying to figure that one out.
You shouldn't have to do that.
Just go into windows MR home and launch Steam from the Desktop, and select the bottom option to launch ED in Steam VR mode.
Could be a binding issue? I use an XBox One controller with custom mappings (just switched from an XBox 360 controller and it's better). Getting some KontrolFreak Ultra stick extenders to day to make it a little more accurate for fixed weapons.
