WMR Acer, can't launch Elite in VR
I just bought an Acer WMR..

It's working fine exept I can't run Elite in VR!

I've installed Steam VR, Windows mixed reality fr steam, but the game only launch on the desktop the view on the acer stays on the grey empty steam vr room as if the game was loading. When I look on the game options on the desktop there are no trace of the acer...

I've tried sthe star wars droid vr games and it worked just fine...

The headset is on hdmi and the screen is on dvi since I only got 1 HDMI port.
I'm rnning it on GTX 1070...

I use an Acer WMR.

To launch it I do the following.

1. Put the headset on
2. Windows MR app should start automatically and take you to the VR home.
3. Open a desktop window.
4. Open steam.
5. Navigate to Elite in your library
6. Click play, and click launch Elite in Steam VR mode

You will find you might have to also click on the open window on the monitor with your mouse when it starts in order for it to get controller focus.

I play with an XBox 360 controller and wireless keyboard.

Also note in the next release of Windows coming soon:
This Fall’s update of Windows will bring some great new features to Mixed Reality!
• Flashlight - a new capability to view what’s happening in the real-world around you. Great for finding your drink or keyboard while playing a game.
• New Quick Actions menu - lets you access lots of capabilities such as photo or video capture while staying immersed in a VR game.
• SteamVR titles in Start Menu - SteamVR games now appear in your mixed reality Start menu and can be launched directly from within the headset, and you can easily access the SteamVR dashboard from Quick Actions.
• Use WMR with no monitor - Support for using mixed reality without a monitor connected (once already setup in backpack PC scenarios) and simultaneous audio streaming to both your headset and desktop speakers to improve demo and commercial deployments of mixed reality.

Thank you. I tried this way but it didnt' work.
If I launch elite from steam on the desktop without launching wmr for steam before I got an" error 108 the hmd is not detected" if I run the wmr for steam before and then launch elite in vr it launch on my monitor but not on the headset.
Itried with te star wars droid vr game and I can launch it both ways without any error.

Thank you for the info about the windows update when is it supposed to come?

When you launch the game, go to options graphics ( i think ) " display" enable the HMD ( head mounted display). try that.. hope it helps.

By "3. Open a desktop window" I mean open a desktop window withing Microsoft VR home environment, and open Steam within there. This is the only reliable way I have to run elite within the Acer headset. Afaik ED should then automatically switch into VR mode as you are starting it by "Run ED Horizons on Steam VR mode" from withing Windows MR home.

Works for me anyway.

I did it!

So WMR for steam in beta , steam vr in beta. Launch steam vr. Then from the desktop launch the game in ed profiler with the settings of the capture. Then launch the game with the mouse in the ED launcher.

And OMG the game is absolutely stunning in VR can't believe it!

Very glad you got it working. And YES, it is TOTALY DIFFERENT IN VR .. The scale is amazing, even an eagle is huge.

Check out the cockpit on the imperial currier in VR. it's like sitting in a million dollar sports car.

ED Profiler is the only way I was able to get ED to launch in VR, nothing else I tried worked. I had been using a Rift and starting the game from the Rift Library.

I'm having a strange and aggravating problem. My "target the ship ahead" (the "T" key) does not work well at all when on the Dell WMR visor, but it works fine when I play the game in desktop. Still trying to figure that one out.

You shouldn't have to do that.

Just go into windows MR home and launch Steam from the Desktop, and select the bottom option to launch ED in Steam VR mode.

Could be a binding issue? I use an XBox One controller with custom mappings (just switched from an XBox 360 controller and it's better). Getting some KontrolFreak Ultra stick extenders to day to make it a little more accurate for fixed weapons.
