For general trading, you can check the new trading and commodity filters in the galaxy map.
From here, you can change the destination station to where you want to go and it will show you the profit on each appropriate commodity. This helps you to see at a glance the available profits and saves time and hoping you'll get a nice return.
Its worth playing about with the galaxy map, loads of info there now about markets and profits.
Good luck o7
But that requires a bit of work investigating systems for things like that. If you just want to know what is best and be told, then just use a tool like eddb.io and use the trade route finder.
Check the trade route tool on this site.
If the missions suck, just see what they need and check prices.....no need to only run missions for credits.

Imperial slaves can make you alot. :)
Depending on the ship, you can make alot in one (cutter/T-9) run or good cash in a few runs using a small ship (cobra).
If you want to rank up with the feds, go to a system that has a bunch of fed factions.....Sol is great for this.
(do you have the permit?)
Only run missions/run cargo for fed factions.
I visit it and see if it need expensives materials, then i search where i can find those and if it's close enough, i start to do lame missions and do some donnations until i get Allied with then.
After all of that, they will start to give very good trading missions, last week i got many missions worth 30~50Mil Cr.
The profit is about 12~26Mil on those, but i keep getting the 5~10Mil little trade missions and i profit about 100Mil/hour.
Oh right, cargo space is a must in this case, so go on Truck-9 or Cutter.
Be in Elite Trading is kinda required, but doing such missions will increase your rank pretty quickly.
I didn't go do Sightseeing tours because i think is lame....but i do like to visit many stations and systems, so i'll keeping doing as i i'm doing until i can't profit 100Mil/h anymore.
I did make money with my personal week long Lakon T9 experiment, but I got silly tired of the interdiction mini game, and depressed by the amount of cargo dumped, number of rebuys, and panic jumping I had to do. It is not fun very quickly.
The new galaxy map trade information is AWESOME. But missions are where the real money is. Sit in an agriculture system in boom state by a famine system - get allied reputation, then make bank stacking famine relief missions. Or sit in an industrial station and make bank sourcing and returning high tech or refined metals for them.
Passengers and shortrange sightseeing or transport are lucrative, and don't have the silly interdiction rate trading has right now. I use an ASP Explorer with a single large cabin and 50ly+ jump range for sightseeing loops with stops under 300 ly from start, or I'll use a python with three size 6 first or business class cabins and do high headcount passenger transport runs. Much safer than trading, just as lucrative. You get great exploration rank from sightseeing too.
