Gimbal tracking with no target lock

Not sure if anyone else has ran into this, but I dropped target lock bc the target hit chaff, and I was then eyeballing my target, but one of my gimbaled laser beams strayed off and tracked one of the law enforcement vessels, they were not happy with me to say the least. Is this normally how these guns behave? bc i thought that they just focused center with no target lock

If a target use chaff you don't loose the lock but the weapons will go "insane" and fire "everywhere" around the target until the chaff is over. So during this time the best way is to deselect the target and use your gimballed weapons as fixed than when the chaff is over than relock the target.

Or just don't press the fire button at all if security around until the chaff is over :D.

edit: You can loose the lock but not by used chaffs but than the weapons will work as fixed so they won't lock on random target. So if it has happened than you probably just hit the security in fixed mode or selected the security by mistake.

The turrets went crazy so I dropped the lock, and since you mentioned the mistaken targeting, my guess is that is what ended up happening, I retargeted over to the security vessel instead of just dropping the lock. Oops, well thanks for the help :)

As Avoidingthenoodle says, hold fire until the chaff expires. Use the time to maneouver and allow your capasitors to recharge. Fly safe Cmdr. o7
