Mining tip: don’t mine in a Resource Extraction Site

I haven’t mined a whole lot, but I figured I’d be safe in my Fed Corvette at a RES while trying to mine 500t of ore to unlock an engineer. Once I had ore in my cargo, I got attacked several times by wings of ships.

So I tried mining in a random spot on the ring, and was undisturbed. So don’t extract resources at a Resource Extraction Site.

Mining Tip: Do the 500 ton grind on the rings of a Planet with Metallic resources.
No Metallic rich, JUST metal.

By the time I was done with the 500 tons I got exactly 12 tons of the thingy-that-I-forgot-the-name-that-you-need-to-donate-to-the-same-engineer (sure I wasn't using prospector limpets , I was speeding the 500ton alone).

Also: do it on a 'reasonably big ship', with point defense modules (they shoot missiles and those limpets that come to steal your cargo)

Also: Don't bother with fast/agile ships, you're gonna have to wait for your limpets to come back anyways.

also.: pick the Limpet controlers with the shortest range, if another mining ship is nearby your own Limpets will try and get THAT ships' ore. it's not illegal but that Limpet will take ages to come back.

Does anyone know if you get the bonus if you come out of supercruise outside of the RES site, then move into within 20km? Or do you have to target the site and drop into it first?

Well, rumor has it that there is a higher yield if you mine in a RES site than if you mine outside of it. Supposedly rocks will give off more fragments. There seems to be conflicting info on this so I'm not really certain of it.

In a Res : more Fragments from the Rocks from 0-20km distance from the Center.

All Rocks are persistent and "refresh" after 2 Hours.

When you mine in a 15-20 km Distance from the Center your "safer" in Fact of Pirates.

Res Mining is really good in a Wing.One Prospector per Rock and all Wing Members can loot the Rock with the same Amount of Fragments from it.

Always use a A rated Prospector.Why would anyone mine without an Prospector Limpet?

btw. there are mapped! Res Zones out there.A Search Machine is your Friend.

Cutter is the best miner, you can basically take a fully ARMED AND OPERATIONAL BATTLESTATION into Res site with all the cargo/refinery you would need, and still butcher any AI assailaints with turrets while you happily pluck away with some mining lasers.

Interested to see how Mining changes in Q4, if the promise matches the execution (It rarely does) but I'd like to be able to mine in a Cobra again and make decent cheddarwursts.

ok so heres a thing prospector limpet bonus i thought i was only to see what it had can some one thell me what this bonus exactly is ??? also now that im asking questions mining lasers is there a diffrense in mining specificly for having a biger tier of laser or more lasers or is a singel T1 mining laser good as well i presume that more means faster and maybe bigger more efficiant ? also is there a point of turreted mining lasers besides crew controls for a second person for ive not noticed the turret traking the asteroid when it was targeted thats all thx in advance

I get that, and yes, I use an A Prospector. What I'm asking is whether or not the RES bonus applies when you are using a Prospector. My searched have found mixed messages on this. Some posts have said you only get the RES bonus when you are *not* using a Prospector.

Yeah the funny thing is I've read that but my own testing kind of proved otherwise.
