What's the best ship for exploration in your opinion?

In my opinion the best is the ASP Explorer, It's fast and not heavy to control, it can reach 74 ly range if you upgrade it properly. Also, the cockpit is amazing.

Asp or dbx, or if you want every optional internal you can possibly need, clipper.

Lakon Type-10 Defender... hands down. For me "the" exploration ship. Around 30 Lj jumprange and equiped with all i need. Roverbays, fighterbay, afw, collector and repair limpets, cargospace (128 tonnes), big fuel scoop, 8a shields, hull reinforcements and heavly pimped with weapons.

Sure many out there prefer max jumprange but its not the goal to be fast, its the way to the goal thats fun for me so 30 lj are ok for me. I like it that way and if it takes 4 days or 7 to reach Colonia is not important to me. But i understand that many see this different and thats ok.

I've been thinking about using my Corvette (31ly combat loaded) for the Lost Souls expedition instead of my AspX (61ly).

Why all the Shield Boosters/HRM? You have no weapons, so why all the tankiness?

I totally second AISTHESIS, the AspX cockpit lights on each side are super annoying.

I'd like to build a Dolphin explorer one day, I reckon it'd make a pretty good exploration ship.

Personally i prefer my Imperial Cutter for long range exploring (10.000+ Ly). It has 50.5 Ly jumprange, everything included: boost-capable thrusters (~390), SRV, shields, weapons, 8A Fuel Scoop....).
I wouldn't recommend it for most players though.
The ASPx gets my Vote for recommendation. Less module slots, somewhat more jumprange (with comparable loadout) and a lot more agile - easy to fly. Also a much better view if you play in VR. If you don't.... Cutter has one of the best cockpits - no stupid elements in your canopy.

Asp with 64 LY, plus all the stuff you need for exploring, and travelling, some cargo, buggy, autodock, some protection, missle defence (great for gaurdian site), AMFU, 6A fuel scoop etc. Medium ship is better for access to medium landing pads. but DBX is too small, really, cant load it up.

What no DSS? Gotta ditch that docking computer for the DSS or you're cheating yourself out of good $$$.

Been there, done that. Already reached Elite status in exploration. Mainly use it for travel and gaurdian sites for now. But yeah, for exploration for sure need the DSS!
