Those are when I fly them.
If you hire a crew member they will take half the XP in combat for every kill, and even if not active they will take about 10% of every single monetary credit you make in the game, no matter what it is.

NPCs are wildly inaccrate with Plasma repeaters for some reason. Despite being very, very accurate with the Condor's multicannons.
For human pilots, most prefer the Taipan and Condor with fixed Plasmas it seems, a small, elite few like the Beam Imperial Fighter. And fewer still excel with the F63 Condor with Fixed Multicannons.

This would be worth it if you could hire Dangerous, Deadly and Elite NPCs. I do this for AX solos though, lol. No point in risking my Co-pilot waifu.
Credits yes. I've got a SLF pilot i can't even used. But hey, its only 9% (trained up to dangerous from harmless). Its not like credits are hard to get these days.
Overall though, what makes the most difference is the rank of your SLF pilot. Until they are at least expert they are pretty bad. Dangerous/Deadly is where they really start to shine though.
