Do you realise HOW HUGE the ships already are?!?

The Type-9 - not even the biggest ship - is as big as the ISS...

I could've sworn they mentioned something about planning for large ships.

Maybe it was a dream.

Playing games in VR has made for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up dreams...
A frigate /ˈfrɪɡɪt/ is any of several types of warship, the term having been used for ships of various sizes and roles over the last few centuries.

In the 17th century, this term was used for any warship built for speed and maneuverability, the description often used being "frigate-built". These could be warships carrying their principal batteries of carriage-mounted guns on a single deck or on two decks (with further smaller carriage-mounted guns usually carried on the forecastle and quarterdeck of the vessel). The term was generally used for ships too small to stand in the line of battle, although early line-of-battle ships were frequently referred to as frigates when they were built for speed.

In the 18th century, the term referred to ships that were usually as long as a ship of the line and were square-rigged on all three masts (full-rigged), but were faster and with lighter armament, used for patrolling and escort. In the definition adopted by the British Admiralty, they were rated ships of at least 28 guns, carrying their principal armaments upon a single continuous deck — the upper deck — while ships of the line possessed two or more continuous decks bearing batteries of guns.

In the late 19th century (beginning about 1858 with the construction of prototypes by the British and French navies), the armoured frigate was a type of ironclad warship that for a time was the most powerful type of vessel afloat. The term "frigate" was used because such ships still mounted their principal armaments on a single continuous upper deck.

In modern navies, frigates are used to protect other warships and merchant-marine ships, especially as anti-submarine warfare (ASW) combatants for amphibious expeditionary forces, underway replenishment groups, and merchant convoys. Ship classes dubbed "frigates" have also more closely resembled corvettes, destroyers, cruisers, and even battleships. Some European navies such as the French, German or Spanish ones use the term "frigate" for both their destroyers and frigates.[citation needed] The rank "frigate captain" derives from the name of this type of ship.

Its a bit of a nebulous word. Many ships in ED could be conisidered Frigates.

In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast, maneuverable long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against smaller powerful short-range attackers. They were originally developed in the late 19th century as a defense against torpedo boats, and by the time of the Russo-Japanese War in 1904, these "torpedo boat destroyers" (TBDs) were "large, swift, and powerfully armed torpedo boats designed to destroy other torpedo boats."[1] Although the term "destroyer" had been used interchangeably with "TBD" and "torpedo boat destroyer" by navies since 1892, the term "torpedo boat destroyer" had been generally shortened to simply "destroyer" by nearly all navies by the First World War.[2]

Before World War II destroyers were light vessels with little endurance for unattended ocean operations; typically a number of destroyers and a single destroyer tender operated together. After the war, the advent of the guided missile allowed destroyers to take on the surface combatant roles previously filled by battleships and cruisers. This resulted in larger and more powerful guided missile destroyers more capable of independent operation.

At the start of the 21st century, destroyers are the global standard for surface combatant ships, with only two nations (United States and Russia) operating the heavier class cruisers, with no battleships or true battlecruisers remaining.[3] Modern guided missile destroyers are equivalent in tonnage but vastly superior in firepower to cruisers of the World War II era, and are capable of carrying nuclear tipped cruise missiles. At 510 feet (160 m) long, a displacement of 9200 tons, and with armament of more than 90 missiles,[4] guided missile destroyers such as the Arleigh Burke-class are actually larger and more heavily armed than most previous ships classified as guided missile cruisers.

Some European navies, such as the French, Spanish, or German, use the term "frigate" for their destroyers, which leads to some confusion.

Again, another rather nebulous description. The Cobra Mk3 could fit the bill depending on how you interpret things.

Funny thing is, when people ask for things like this, i think they are basically asking for bigger ships.

This is pretty typical in many games. People always want bigger. More levels. More classes. Better weapons.

This leads to power creep. They get bigger stuff, then complain the NPCs are too easy and that the game is borning and how they can rip through everything. Then the devs have to add more challenging stuff. Then the players ask for bigger and better stuff....

Its a vicious cycle that leads nowhere.

Its also worth remembering that the biggest flyable ships in ED are alerady pretty big.

Just put E-grade thrusters on a Beluga Liner, and have your Frigate experience today.

Why do you ever need bigger than the Corvette ships in this game? And if you want bigger just for the sake of size, then why to stop at Destroyers? Why not killer stations? Deathstars? Rogue planets? Pilotable Black Holes?

I don't see how a warship can be balanced into this game. Try Star Trek Bridge Crew?..

I do wish we had space legs already though.
I feel like space legs would be a very short lived novelty. I would rather see them implement some actually interesting gameplay.

First person shooters are NOT a novelty.

Sure seems like walking around would be some “interesting gameplay”. But what do I know?

To the OP. We have Capital ships now and soon to be added player owned squadron carriers. I think that’s what they are calling them. So.......

I don't think they will be pilotable. More like traveling stations.

you MAY be disappointed it not that good really, i ended up going back to my Anaconda which i find far more superior myself.

By all means get it it may suit your playstyle better than i found it to be, for me it wass just bad in all the roles i had much better experience with my A+ maxed out Anaconda it does everything and more than my Corvette at the moment my Corvette is stored away and used pretty much as a safety deposit box, money in the bank if i ever need it or need to sell it off.

Hopefully you find it better than i found it to be, either way happy travels :)
