Fun hell yes
Anyway to OP, PVP wise you won't be abe to take down one of the big 3 with an eagle alone, even in PVE I doubt it's possible to be honest
However they can still make for great and interesting ships in combat, with such a small and fragile craft you have to learn how to dodge fire and stay out of your enemy's line of sight all the while doig damage, the fact they are quite cheap also add to the fact they are great training ship
with engineering and piloting skills I think you could maybe go as far as killing a clipper / FAS / python, maybe the FGS if they don't have fighter bays
Engineering is surprisingly well worth it.
its not like 1-5% improvements on what you need its more like 30-50%
and weight makes a very noticeable impact
vulture cant even dream of that
Its like about any other ship in game: know your strong sides and limits, evade line of fire and continue biting. Also you cant kill shields and hull of enemy ship with your tine weapons. SO focus on needed modules. Power plant (if you have good penetration) or power distributor. AFter you shut it down - any target is easy.
And yes - do NOT fight with vulture. Shups with round-cover turrets can be tought targets too, but you just need to shut down needed turret and then remain in that blindspot. Knowing enemy ships is good here.
Dont foget about MODULE reinforcements. Your shields are not that tough and you would get some damage, so saving your modules is better for you to remain in fight.
but if your not an experienced fighter its going to take alot of rebuys before you can comfortably dance arround the enemy's line of sight.
just be patient and keep going at it.
I've oly just started modded an Imp Courier...
Bloody lovely ship.
So far dirty drives 3 on Enhanced Thrusters,
power plant modded to @19.5 Mw,
Wider angle scanners for easy of use in combat,
2 shield boosters adding @10-15% resistance to every damage type,
level 2 corrisive multi + level 2 incendiary multi.
Raised about 7 mill in a High Res on a single load of multi ammo, with taking a single percentage in hull damage....
...then forgot i could rearm in the Res.
