Python is better in most other aspects afaik.
Clipper = large pad
For me, if you are using that as your "daily driver", is a no brainer. Python.
Cheaper, more reliable, insanely good in PVE. Clipper drifts harder than a deer on an icy asphalt road.
Python can land on outposts, stronger weaponry and defences. Doesn't require an Imperial rank. More versatile, in general.
If you get the Clipper that 7A shield is pretty much not optional. I A rated the stock size. 5 if memory serves. And it just isn’t up to the task of combat at all. At least not for me. Might be ok for a much better pilot.
But let's compare the highlights taken from coriolis
Clipper / Python
Cost: 22,3Mio / 56,9Mio >> More then double the price hence the insurance rises
Padsize: L-Pad / Medium-Pad >> The M-Pad is a great plus which can open up more docking stations and certain missions.
Max LY range: 27,6 / 30,8 >> I normally don't use these number, with engineers you get both way over 30 LY which is enough for a bubble ship.
Max Speed: 348 / 267 >> Similar to jumprange these are just basic values unengineered but you notice that there is a 100 m/s difference. This can be very handy on planets because we all know how long it can take to go somewhere when under 50km.
If we look at core modules it's
PP: 6/7 >> For an alround vessel no big difference here, i normally downgrade them but if you want to fit the big guns and shield boosters Class 7 is king
Thruster: 6/6
FSD: 5/5
LS: 5/4 >> Without going into silent running or deep space doesn't matter
Pd: 6/7 >> Same as PP
Last but not least Internals:
The clipper has class 7 slot which is if we are talking cargo worth 2 of the 3 class 6 slots. This leaves us with 1 class 6 slot for both ships for shields. For the sake of comparison we keep it simple.
If we throw the class 5 and 4 slots together the python is the winner with 2 class 5 + 1 class 4 vs 2 class 4 slots of the clipper. Even if you are going to throw class 4 in the 5's anyway.
In the lower slots it's the other way around, 2 class 1 + 2 class 3 for the clipper and we have a winner vs 1 class 2 + 2 class 3 if let's say you are going to fit 3 different small limpet controllers thats great with the clipper.
Overall i would agrue that in most situations these internals are so similar that you can only decide by preference but if you want a bigger shield the clipper is the way to go.
At last the weapons:
Remember the PP & PD sizes from earlier, thats where they come in handy.
The Python got one more L size (3xL/2xM) slot and thats exactly why it can hit harder with it's bigger PP & PD.
If you are just shooting some groundtargets for later SRV fun or have that one Navy mission to finish and are not purely using it as a combat vessel the clipper is the way to go.
Sidenote: You can compare it all day but it boils down to the price tag.
22,3 Mio vs 56,9 is close to triple the base price and adding ontop the 7A PD and 7A PP for around 60 million to the python vs 19 million to ad onto the clipper.
If you ask me comparing a ship that costs fully kitted between 150 and 200 million to one half the price with way under 80 is nonsense. Also don't forget the insurance prices, they differ greatly. But if you must compare them, the clipper is for it's pricetag really good.
That's just my opinion and what made me decide to go the clipper way, besides the phenomenal view. ;)
Good choice, it's a real beauty. :) Have fun with it.
I didn't consider that when I had enough to buy my Python. I had the poor girl moth balled for months until I made enough to afford to finish outfitting and have rebuy.
I'm working on getting the clipper becaus ei love the Gutamaya ships... Nothing screams elegance like slave labor :D
but it is a preferance. .... i have a cutter and i still use the python more lol
