Is there any way to play offline?
Not that I should need to since I'm not offline, but after an hour of playing I can't connect to the servers for some reason. I don't even want to play online, but I can't seem to do anything but the first two tutorials. Why did I download almost 20gb if I can't even do solo play offline?

No. the closest to Offline is Solo Play and that still requires internet and server access

Dont' know aboutr not being able to connect, but there isn't a way to play offline. The reason is because all modes share the same background simulation in regards to stations status, state, economy, and policitcal engagement. Everything you do in the game affects it so as not to single out players who want to play in single player or in private groups not being able to participate in it.

Just when I thought I found a good VR space game. That's really annoying.

if your having problems then do this......

through a phone app get netalyzr and scan your network through wi fi.
this should give you a read out off what nett problems your having
open up all your problems and then save a pdf
get a ticket
https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/
and send them this report and tell them the problems your having

and no you can not play this offline in solo

I've been looking around and it seems like a lot of people have been having the same problem lately. I'm hoping it's just an influx of new players from the sale that's overloading their servers.

I was loving it for the hour that it worked, but now I haven't been able to connect for over an hour. It was already shaping up to be one of my favourite VR games.

Try this

https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/faq.php?id=265

Solved all my "failed to connect to matchmaking server" problems, and some other things, like the way it used to take a while to get out of supercruise or a system jump sometimes.

Personally, I really do think that the solo play should only need to connect to the servers temporarily once you land at a station -to refresh your missions,etc- or exit to desktop -to save your progress.
