Most locations are about 30 ly apart from each other(average), so there is no need for a ship far beyond 20 unless you want to do everything with 1 jump only.
If I am misremembering and its another site, use them in conjunction, it will be one of the main ones I'm sure. (May be the Neutron Highway one)
It should plot a decent route for you, assuming it is beyond the normal range of the ingame plotter.
Honestly you could probably do a lot of it in a sidewinder (with class A FSD)
on a 2nd account I recently decided to do the entire thing.... in a cobra mkIII with 20Ly jump range.. went without docking from start to finish
I used https://www.alpha-orbital.com/pathfinder for the list of planets.
It took me just a bit over 9 days of flying 4 to 6 hours a day to visit all 557 planets on the road to riches [not to mention scanning a mess of others that were in systems between RTR systems (some of those are 30-40 ly aparet to as much as over 100Ly apart]
I used EDDiscovery's statistics tab to keep track
Over the course of that 9 days:
703 jumps
11,673 Ly travelled
1531 scans
344,905,892 total estimated scan value (according to EDDiscovery, I haven't sold any data yet.)
You have to set each one manually. The only route planning possible is when you have more than one jump to get to the next one. Elite doesn't do "waypoints" in navigation.
Note the pathfinder page has a button (looks like a clipboard) next to each entry so that you can click on it and have the sytem name copied to the clipboard which will let you paste it into the map search ... takes a *little* of the tedium out of it.
