Is combat as boring as the tutorials indicate?
I'm really hoping the combat tutorials are exteme examples of how boring battles will actually be, because I'm not seeing how anyone could play this for hundreds or thousands of hours.

Not trying to hate, just my first impression.

it can get boring if all you do is grind out the big ships that make combat EZ, but in small ships combat can be thrilling for a few hours at a time
Fortunately, this game gives more to do than just the combat.

I find combat fun even in bigger ships like a python. Probably the best space combat of any game out today.

Meh, prefer the smaller ships. In the bigger ships its mainly just a case of point and shoot, its rare to feel any sense of danger.

In the small ships against tougher opponents its harder and often find myself sweating badly when my shields are going down and i'm having to take evasive manouvers to try and survive while finding a good angle of attack to get on the target.

how about you play the game for more then an hour

Best thing to do is not just focus on one thing at a time, and get creative about how you go about doing things like the loadouts for your ship.
Never actually tried the combat tutorial. Played quite a few combat ship games. At the moment ED is the best 1st Pers spaceship shooter out there. I like the PIP system.

SC still developing and still unsure about its combat system and is what I'm about the log into now. PTU here I come.

Kinda, lots of spinnign in small ships, lots of more firepower in the bigguns

The larger ships (Talking bigger than a Python) can make you a bit lazy... With the exception of the Clipper... its large but fast... its also bigger than a Python lol

Seriously though, when you have a ship like an Anaconda/Cutter/Corvette, they have the power to instamelt smaller ships. Very much "Point & shoot" as someone else said.

Something a little smaller can make the combat a little more... lets say intense.

Nothing like having a few larger ships on you when you're in a Vulture or Chieftain. Definitelly going to work up a sweat fighting in one of those.

At the same time, there is a larger feel of accomplishment when you can do that though.

In a vulture it's intense as you have to avoid being shot while trying to dish out damage at all times esp. against bigger ships. It trains your spacial awareness quite a bit. Haven't tried out from a bigger ship but I guess it's going to be point and click mostly.

With the "point" part being the hardest to accomplish.

If your in a big ship just go into a RES or CZ and shoot a few bad guys. When you have multiple ships on you you'll be sweating plenty.
