Personally, I enjoyed unlocking Engineers because it introduced me to aspects of the game I likely never would have encountered (both asteroid-mining and surface-prospecting, for example).

I'd recommend beginning with Felicity Farseer, as she can provide upgrades to your Frame Shift Drive, which makes everything a little easier. (She can also do the first level of Power Plant upgrades.)
Felicity is in the Deciat system, but she'll want you to bring 1 unit of Meta Alloys, which can be bought from Darnielle's Progress in Maia system. ( https://eddb.io/station/47951 )
Before you can visit her, you'll need to reach Scout rank of Exploration, if you haven't already.
Grab an Advanced Discovery Scanner, 'honk' a bunch of systems (use the discovery scanner) and sell the exploration data elsewhere. If you equip your ship with a Fuel Scoop, it should help make the job that bit easier as you won't need to constantly find stations to stop at.

With the engineers, you'll have a few that are available to start off with. Once you get those to level 3 or 4, they may refer you to another engineer. The 'Inara' link above should help you see who you need to work with to unlock specific engineers.

Originally, you needed certain Commodities (cargo items) for engineering, but since then the game has been changed so you don't require cargo space to do engineer upgrades. Which also means that if you die, you do not lose the engineering supplies. :-)

If you're going for pure money-making, then combat can be lucrative, but isn't the absolute most effective way to gather cash. Having said that, variety is the spice of life, and you can own more than one ship - so why not make ships for each type of thing, and experience them all? :-)
Yep I'm surveyor... I do enjoy honking and adding bonuses to other missions hehehe
Nice!! but what if I have an Engineered FSD and Frag Cannon? Do I loose them if I die? they become normal ones? I will have to pay more insurance?
--
yes, but what other ways do you recommend? any that involves combat? Passangers? or I have to fall in trading to get money quicker?
If you die, and you rebuy your ship, then you rebuy it as it was when you died, engineered modules included. And as far as i can tell, engineering modules does not affect their insurence costs.
Now if you die and you CAN'T rebuy your ship, yeah, you lose it all completely. That's why "mind your rebuys" is so often repeated around here..
I know about this and that is precisely why I ask, I do like combat but I'm not making any mistakes so I'm asking to know in advance about re-buy prices hehehe
Thanks and fly safe CMDr!
