Best place to sell exploration data?

I'm currently on my way through the road to riches exploration route so I have a lot of data to sell off.

I have already got grade 5 for all engineers that take exploration data.

Is there anywhere with any particular benefit to trading it in?

Not in particular. If there are certain factions that you want to be allied with, it is useful to sell them in a station that they control. Or just a station that you/someone else think is good for missions, this is one quick way to build up your reputation with the controlling faction.

Side note, think you get a payout increase if you have right level with certain PP in their controlled system, but unless you somehow miraculously still have the sufficient rating after an exploration trip, that is an option but I wouldn't risk it.

So I could at least use it for a rep boost with empire/federation then?

It doesn't work for navy rank.
The best thing you can do (wich is hardcore grind btw) Is get max rank with Li Yong Rui
When at that rank any exploration data has double payout if I remember right.

There are a lot of permit locked systems, you can instant allied with factions and get these permits.Plus on some engeeniers.

Anywhere you want to gain lots of rep from the controlling faction whilst also giving that faction an influence boost.

If it gives a rep boost then turning it in to an empire/federation faction that should unlock the rank up mission for the faction though right?

It gives influence and reputation too...but i dont think it counts towards rank progression...you need missions for that.

Dont forget you can trade in exploration data with felicity farseer and itll also improve your engineer rank with her.

I think I know the answer to this, but need to ask anyway:

Ive been out exploring for about 7 weeks now, done thousands of scans...there is not a "maximum" amount of data that the surface scanner can hold/transfer to the computer? I assume the scan info is stored on the computers, meaning that the storage room for the scan data is basically unlimited. Is this correct?

This! Early on, after I'd done some of my first mini-exploration, I forgot I had about 3 mil credits worth of data and ended up getting myself killed in a combat mission before turning it in. At the time that was an expensive lesson.
