Multi-crew
How fun is it? If done, can you bring more people in game by have three ships with multiple in each? Or does it limit with either crewing the same ship or having multiple ships? Do credits get spread out evenly?

I'm wanting to play with my father, and as it has a steep learning curve, I thought that it might be easier for him to multi-crew with me.

You cannot have a crew and a wing going at the same time, only one or the other. As far as credits are concerned the pilot of the crew gets the same 100% bounty payout, but the crew also gets credits. The credits the crew gets depends on what their combat rank is relative to the pilot's. If the crew has the same or higher combat rank they'll recieve 80% of the bounties. With a wing every member that shot at the wanted NPC gets the full 100% payout. I should mention that if you intend to do multicrew I advize you have a ship capable of launching fighters or a ship with turreted weapons on it if you want the crew member to have anything to do.

Tough2Tame has it right, but also keep in mind that only the pilot gets reputation changes and credit for things like Community Goals, multi crew people only get cash, bounties, and fines.

If you have a passenger and go bounty hunting they get half the amount don't they?

If by passenger you mean player crew, the maximum payout (if your rank is equal to or higher than the pilot's) is 80%. At the launch of multicrew it was 50%, but pretty soon after they buffed the payout scale because people complained about multicrew offering too little credits. I went looking for an updated scale, but I could only find ones on the outdated up to 50% scale. If you manage to find an up to date scale feel free to link it here, I'm sure it might be helpful to somebody.

Thank you, I am just wondering about a passenger/crew on my chieftain while I bounty hunt to show them different weapons, etc.

At this point I don't know what the point of multi-crew is. You can't take additional ships...and the payout is lessened.

Well, Multicrew is a lot of fun. It's also a good, almost riskless way to get good with combat basics like pip management, fixed gun fighting, FA off, etc.

From a game design choice, not letting Crewed ships wing up was bad, but I think it was done for technical reasons, host layering conflicts through the instancing servers. The actual instances don't run off dedicated servers, so the computation and bandwidth burdern of Multicrew+Wings was probably too much. Where as if Elite was run off a truly dedicated server like a real MMO, it wouldn't be such a huge technological hurdle.

One thing I haven't check to see, is if Multicrew members can share wing missions. It would make the big 3 good ships to get new players tons of credits, as something like an Imperial cutter can easily solo Multicrew Assassinations.

How much learning would someone have to do to jump into a spot? My dad has never made it through the tutorial...would it be as simple as target changing, energy management, and aiming if he was the gunner?

There is so much to learn here that he feels overwhelmed in the tutorial.

Learning the basic controls I would say is enough, I would also learn how to activate the chat too so you can communicate your needs. If you are in a gunner role, make sure you communicate that you're a total noob and might need a minute to acclimate or get some tips.

There's no real penalty to the host ship as long as they lock their turrets (Something I recommend unless you are inviting people by hand) The host gets a free distributor pip, so even if you don't do anything, there's a reason to have a crewmember. Short range fighters are dirt-cheap to replace, less than a single shot of some weapons like Plasma Accelerators.

I should point out that finding a spot in another ship is sometimes pretty hard, Multicrew didn't really take off, most people are worried that someone will jump in and mess up their bounty run by attacking civilians, etc.

Get a ship with a size 6 fighter bay and two friends can then both fly SLFs. Its lots of fun.

Cheapest ship that can pull that is the... T9 I think? Though I'd recommend at T10 for slightly more. Gonna need about 400,000,000CR to kit one out for minimal combat.

Though the Krait might fill that gap somewhat, depending on what direction FD has gone with it. I don't think it'll be a small ship, looks like it's going to be about the size of an Imperial Clipper. (Large, but agile for it's class, with a fighter bay)

Federal Gunship supports 2 fighters. I've never used multicrew though and since you can only have one NPC member you can only launch one at once. But the 2nd fighter is ready go go as soon as the first is destroyed.

Can your NPC can fly one and a friend fly the other?
dubpunk Apr 28, 2018 @ 8:16am
Im un-sure of the the payout % but when I have cmdrs join me they say they make around 3.5mill on a average 30min run. Im about to jump into some bounty hunting today if anyone wants to join and keep track of stats while making a bit of cash?

Yes but depending on how frequent either one dies you may only want one player so they can switch ships. Avoid multicannons if you have long lasting pilots so they dont have to keep redocking.
Edit; i just checked last night crews report and 156 kills result in total profit of 20.66mill, highest bounty 599
