Partial deliveries - how?

I was trying to deliver some Hydrogen fuel when i needed 610 total but only had room for 80. it looked like i could deliver partials and return with more but i was unable to increase/set the current delivery amount when i arrived. TIA

there is a pick up point and a delivery point. So basically when you start up the mission. you have to go into the mission panel. Click the mission you are on and fill your inventory from there. then go to the delivery point and repeat then drop off the merchandise.

when i first started doing those missions i actually went to the commodities market and purchased the items... (this was a bad idea)

I made the same mistake: buying the goods from the market and trying to bring them back partially fulfilled.

Now,small ships can deliver big tonns of cargo same as big ones...at few rates...excellent feature, few updates ago...
