dose influence play a bigger part in the game cause it takes longer to build?

or what is it for?

Influence increases affect the faction you are completing the mission for i.e. their influence increases within the system.

Reputation on the other hand, is your reputation with the faction.

so having high " influence " is it just as help ful as a high rep?

No, you don't have influence, the faction does within the system. You have reputation with the faction, not influence

i am with alliance at the moment.....

and rep i know is different faction inside station you do missions for.. this i understand

i dont under stand influence.... the little blue bar that goes ever so slowly

I guess influence for alliance is the same as rank for the Feds and Imps. There are no ranks for alliance so I guess FD labelled it as influence.

Sorry to say though, I don't know what the benefit of higher influence is

My understanding of Influence is that raising it for a local faction helps that faction out (not you directly, but if you're working with them a lot, you might want them to do well). I'm pretty sure it can be read as "This faction's influence in their system with other factions".

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, however.

that is the minor factions influence within the system. has nothiong to do with individual players. it effects BGS stuff

influence determines the faction's standing in the system. unless you're playing the BGS influence does nothing for you.
