What is the best ASP Explorer build?
Hey. I have been playing Elite Dangerous for a while now and I know that my favourite thing to do in this game is exploring. So a little while I decided to buy a fully outfitted Diamondback explorer with some great jumprange. With that ship I have now explored a fairly nice amount of things but I started looking at the ASP Explorer since that ship has more internal compartments and a gorgeous cockpit. I have been searching for good Asp explorer exploration builds and these are the two that interest me the most:

Which one do you guys think is the best for exploration?

Thanks for reading!

4 Railguns, 2 Beams, A rated Class 4 OC, Just encase someone gets lippy 30,000 LY out.

Really
For me its as follows
Light weight A Rated PP (I know But you'll see why) Low Emissions, SO you never have to worry about heat

As small as you can Distributor where you can still boost
6A Fuel scoop
32 tonne cargo rack (You find some really valuable stuff)
D Rated everything else unless you wanna Planetary land then a rated clean drives
A small Bi weave shield for landiongs and returning
Discovery and Long range DDS
a SRV bay
A AFMU if you plan on using the neutron highway,
And i personally use 2 Light weight heat sinks
with a A rated G% Mass managed drive you'll get just under 50, or just over, i auctually have an old god roll FSD from before.

If you know you are going to do more planet flying then the first one, if you are just going to stick to supercruise then the second one.

Yeah I don't only want to supercruise. I sometimes also want to be able to just land on a planet and look around a little bit. So the first one is better for that kinds of stuff?

It will be more of a nice quality of life when flying on planets. The Asp X dose not have the best breaks in the game. Having better thrusters can save your life out there on planets.

I'm just heading home for a tour to Colonia in a Type-10 (i know, i know. why the Type-10 of all ships.....) But i have 7A Thrusters and it saved my life a few times on planets where i had to pull a suicide burn.

Alright thx!

A better shield for exploration is a 3A Standard, if you're gonna smash into something, try to harden your shields (Dump pips into Sys) and they should withstand anything south of a 600+M/S collision, modified for Enhanced Lo-Power which reduces power consumption and mass. You can even cool-run an Asp with shields active depending on the rest of your stuff (Obviously A rated powerplant with maximum thermal effeciency Engineering)

I know that engineering makes everything ALOT easier and better but I almost threw my PC out of the window because of how tedious it is to get the materials you need to get those engineered upgrades. It just isn't worth the suffering for me.
do atleast the FSD, the engineers are easy to unlock and if you just drop into a few even DED USS you will have everything you need quick enough to atleast G4 probably G5 an FSD except the rocks which can all be found in the same system (planet even) of the engineers
you will thank yourself later

I've just returned from a 12k ly round trip in the excellent Asp X. You don't need to engineer it to get a decent jump range. D rate most of the modules as suggested above to reduce weight, don't take weapons and don't worry about the brakes on the Asp, theyre fine. I supercharged my fsd for the very first time using a neutron star while carrying 90 m CR worth of data. Worked beautifully.

Just stay awake, always set the throttle to zero when the fsd counter hits zero to save you from flying into the next star. You'll benefit from the amazing view from the Asp cockpit. And remember the 6A fuel scoop allows you to usually refill your fuel tank with one pass, without having to slow down. Helps a lot. If you are taking an srv, land on a planet where you can harvest some materials, one or two collections, depending on what you get, will allow you to reload and refuel the srv using the synthesis ability from the right hand menu. This is great for extended srv exploring.

The whole exploring thing can be quite alluring and addictive if youve got the right equipment and a bit of enthusiasm for it :)

Have fun!

I have definetly tried getting that. I had to give 3 soontill relics to Elvira Mantuuk and I did that so I can now do upgrades by her but I need a "Atypical disrupted wake echoes" so I searched up what that is and found out that you have to scan high wakes so I did that for like 2 hours but did not get that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Atypical disrupted wake echoes thing.
I am going to try it sometime again but it breaks my sanity in a painfull way...

Could you maybe share your build? :)
go to a high pop boom state and sit outside the station that is doing all the traffic and you will scan those in no time
an example would be newdawn in ceos or practically any of the stations in sol or countless other systems around sol
i filled up on those things in about an hour way back before i even had horizons and have not scanned another wake since (for that purpose)

Yep, can link it later when back home :)

Ooh. I have only tried it in one station so maybe that one wasn't so good for those wakes. Right now I am all the way at the Barnard's Loop but I am going to go back to ceos to do that. Thanks!
