Home system
I am fairly new to the game and have been having a good time trying out some of the many things there is to do in game. However, I am starting to think about where I should set up a home base to max my relations in that system. There are obviously a million choices but clearly there are some systems much better than others. I would like to get some advice from the vets here about what they think the best systems are to call home. So before you ask, I am a jack of all trades type of player. I have done a little bounty hunting at high resource sites, quite a bit of trade, and I have done a lot of exploring but thats mostly because I am new and am checking out the universe. thanks

Close to the arrival star. Interstellar factors services (or whatever it is called). Has black market. Has all services to be honest. In medium security I should think. Near Jameson orbital system.

My home station does not have all of that (Interstellar factors services, nearness to arrival star) but I've been at that station since 2015 and been happy. Depends on how easy you want things.

Seek what you want like / things to consider:

Resourse extraction sites?
Black Market?
Interstellar factor to remove crimes?
Large landing pads and ship storage?
How far must you supercruise to station?
Do you want a quiet safe place or very public?
Do you want high or low security?
Do you plan to influence minor factions?
Major power alignment (fed,imp,ali)?

I picked a small independant system with 4 minor factions and low population.
This make minor faction control easy.

It also has limited services, is far from the main star, does not have large landing pad, no ship storage, no extraction sites, all meaning no players go there or do missions. That lets me control the system without interfearence. I use another system for a garage and outfitting.

Work in Nanoman until you get a SOL permit, then move to SOL. Tons of stations and planet outposts to keep you entertained and cycle through them.

sorry for the noob question but where is nanoman and why is it a good place to set up before getting to sol?

I picked a minor system that was a transport hub to 4 different high-paying destinations (never Smeaton level, but shorter flights that resulted in a comparable, if slightly reduced hourly profit), and had every kind of mineral you could want for surface prospecting. Since the transport nerf, I've discovered some mining stations in the neighboring systems that pay great rates for hauling gold and palladium, often to my home port or other systems in the area.

Where you set up is going to depend a lot on what you do.

If you're a miner, you'll want a system that has pristine reserves.

If you like bounty hunting, you'll probably want to set up in a system that has a lot of Resource Extraction Sites, and a space station with a large dock a short flight from them.

If you're part of a Power Play faction, closer to their capitol system is desirable.

Find a system that hits a lot of the right notes, and has other desirable functions a short distance away.

I understand how improving relations with factions gets you better payouts but I don't get how influnce works and how it benefits you. Can you explain how that works and why you want to control a system?

I tend to pick a system that has at least 2 good close by mission destinations, with all stations with @1500 ls.
Make sure theres a High Resource site in system that is that close too.
4-5 Factions aligned with Fed/Empire is also good.

Then i pick another equivilent system for the other power thats between 200-350 LYrs away.

Current 'Home' in Empire is 6 ls from main star, high res @500ls from that, skimmer missions aplenty in a neighbouring system that has one landable planet + 2 Platform stations for cargo runs. Some systems 1 jump away have high paying passenger missions too.

I appreciate all the advice guys, it helps a lot. This game is a bit overwhelming when you start and there is so much to learn and consider. Getting advice from people who have already "been their and done that" is invaluable.

ear Sol, Epsilon Ceti is a half decent Fed system. Irukama is an ok Empire system.

Shifting influence is just added fun, more content. Remember you can google search everything and also any question you will have has been answered here before. Type influence in the search here and you will get lots of info. So from what is in your head now just look at a few systems and pick one. Learn a bit about your new system, get some reputation from working. Then you know how to move into a system and know more what you want, you can move to another system and get reputation in a day. Now you have Rep in 2 systems in case you get wanted in one system. Always learn, never fear, never underestimate. Anything you loose you can get back. The longer you play the quicker you replace loss. If you want to advance fast don't grind and buy stuff, reseach and practice.

And don't worry. Picking a home system isn't really very important. As you gain more experience with the game you will solidify your ideas of what is important to you and what is not. Then you can make a better decision vis home systems.
