2) Lack of attention is the biggest risk. Jumping, not throttling down, getting distracted, and running into a star. Be very careful around Neutron stars and white dwarfs, those can be fatal. Also high G planets, be careful when landing on those. You might want to think twice before trying to land on planets over 3g.
3) Whichever you want. If you are going somewhere remote, then a big jump range is obviously better, and also if you are going a long way. Anaconda, Asp X, Orca, DBX - those have the highest jump range. You really want to engineer your FSD as well.
4) Obviously Sag A* at the core. A bit closer than that is the Great Annihilator - also a black hole. Past the core, to the right (from Sol perspective) is New Botany Bay. A neutron star with 6 earthlikes (yeah, it doesn't make sense). The Eagle nebula is a nice place to go as well. Once at the far side, you might want to visit Beagle Point - 65k LY from Sol. You can use EDSM.NET to look for interesting places to visit or the galactic mapping project: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/116450-Information-The-Galactic-Mapping-Project-amp-Expedition-Hub?p=3660696&viewfull=1#post3660696
5) Of course. Over 1000 CMDRs flew to Beagle Point in 3302. People have gone further, but only with high jump range ships and jumponium. Getting there you either have to swing around the arms or find a place to cross the arms - there are paths across that have been mapped out.
6) Just be careful out there. One mistake can cost you everything. If you run out of fuel, don't panic, call the fuel rats. With regards to outfitting, if you want range, D rate everything except FSD, fuel scoop, and power plant. Powerplant fit the smallest A rated one you can that will power your modules. Once out in the black, disable your shield for less heat generation and fuel consumption, except when landing, you want to reenable when doing that.
Phew! I'm beat. Googling is a lot of work.
However, i understand the desire to go out with the coming update for the new planet textures. That's why i organized Silly Ships 3 to launch after the new patch drops. Looking forward to seeing some sights.
Most explorers like seeing the different configurations of systems. Not everyone likes that though.
Once you know what you have to do (and as importantly not to do) high G planets are nothing special. Every time there is a beta I always take the chance to practice on Achenar 3 (6.7G) not to get rusty.
Yeah, its best to practice in the bubble though rather than trying for the first time out in the black.
