Mining ships
Hello there commanders,

I am looking to upgrade my ASP Exlporer (mining) to a possibly better ship for this role.

I've been reading that the Python is one of the best at this job. What do you think?

My problem with the ASP Explorer is that the ship is so sluggish to fly, hard to come to a stop, and just bad overall maneuverability. Makes mining kinda hard.

Looking forward in hearing back from you!

The python worked well for me but I honestly much prefer the Krait 2 since it's more nimble. It can also push over 500 ms boosting, although I'll admit that's wildly unnecessary.

Python is even worse than Asp and for pure maneuverability (and speed) Clipper is still the best in terms of cargo/maneuverability however it doesn't really have the jump range, so t's easier to just have Python dedicated as a cargo ship and swap ships after mining.

Other than that Orca/Beluga Liner are pretty decent miners with good maneuverability, jump range, cargo space.

OK now I have to try my Orca and Beluga for mining. I never even considered using one of them.

Beluga is good for wholesale mining due to the *massive* amounts of size 2 hardpoints on it. Orca... not so much. Inferior to the Clipper for pretty much the same pad requirements, and inferior to the Python in pretty much every sense except speed and FSD which isn't really important when mining.

I went with almost everything D rated in order to reduce the tonnage and increase jumps. I wonder if it will be worth to go A Thrusters.

Nonetheless, my first mining session went really well. Definitely a better feeling compared to the ASP Exlplorer.

Combat wise I equiped 2 pulse lasers and a multicannon along the mining equipment. Do you commanders have a better suggestion?

Safe journeys o7

If your Deep Core Mining then Yes Python is the best ship, If your just strip mining the Python is horrible for this. For Straight strip mining get a Cutter if you cant do that do a Conda.

Only core mining. Is it worth to do laser mining?

Did you look at my post?

That was all strip mining.

Here's a funny thing, I've been thinking of doing the opposite for a while. I've been using a python to mine and sure, it does a good job but the main thing that bothers me is the view from the cockpit.

I began my journey just this week, still getting used to everything.

How do you "strip" (laser?) mine? I have yet to find an asteroid with valuable materials on the surface. Only deep core scanning :D

LTD or Low Temperature Diamonds, Void Opals and Panite are all going to fluctuate in price as more and more people like my self post things like this https://imgur.com/a/bOfY6GK resulting in more and more people going out and looking and/or doing their research on where to go to mine and where to sell.

its called Google; if your selling your hard earned Mining stuff for under what you know its worth then its not only up to you to find where to actually sell it but its your fault if you dont.

Lastly Diamonds are going to be your main money maker dont waste your cargo space on♥♥♥♥♥♥thats not going to net you 1MillionCr/T. Had I done that i would not have made the amount that I have in the last 2days.

Void Opal mining is all Core Mining, IMHO it takes way to long to;
Find a Hot Spot
Find a Core Deposit
Mine the rock
Strip the rock off of surface deposits if any
Do subsurfaces
Crack it open
then do more Surface stripping

Thats a Overly complicated bs mechanic and it takes way to long to do all of that when in the time it takes you to do that ive already made 50T of LTD.

copy and pasted since there is a duplicate post from someone else asking the exact same thing. I Dont Core Mine, EVER. I Hate Doing It. Its hard as 7UCK to do in a large ship that weighs 2268T soaking wet because I want my cargo full of limpets to use.

Take a look at the picture I linked in this post. All of that is from strip mining only. Going from 8% up to 40% tops and Yes it took me two days to do, One Day Per Load in about 8-9hours total each trip.

The only way Void Opal mining will ever be worth it is if they Fix the God Aweful Piece of $h!T Pulse Wave Scanner which literally does nothing other then tell you which rocks to not go to.

False. Python, Krait and Clipper are all perfectly fine for strip mining, the difference is they won't be able to sit for hours in a belt. A conda or a vette may be more convenient, but the potential credits per hour are more or less the same. Whether strip mining still has any advantage over core mining things being as they are now though, I kinda doubt it.

Alexandrite and Grandadite are very decent moneymakers, and still above Painite. Sure, you won't be doing VO money, but then again compared to every other activity, particularly fighting, the investment vs benefit ratio is still off the charts considering the low risk that mining entails. It's very relative, but as a strip miner for years in this game it's hard to overstate how much core cracking has upped the mining game even if you don't go too crazy on the meta.
