The price range is huge, from less than ~150k up to 1.6M per ton.
Idea of wandering space is a little scary though. The AI pirates are so arrgressive! And they just, spawn on top of you.. I've upgraded my shields and armor, but they're tough! A massive ship can always spawn out of nowhere and gank you.
Also once you jump into a hotspot let the pirates scan you before you begin mining and nothing else will bother you unless you leave and go back to another hotspot.
Use websites like EDDB.io (also suggested earlier in the thread) and then search for Commodity, Void Opals and that lists you last known stations for best price, like so:
https://eddb.io/commodity/350
Bear in mind that this DB is not realtime and may contain outdated info (see Time column, that's indication how old is the info).
https://inara.cz/goods
But as with eddb, you need to pay attention to how old the data is. You will only want to trust data minutes or a few hours old.
don't forget. void opals aren't always the best. I've made much more money in fact on other materials such as grandidierite. they're only as valuable as the price someone is willing to pay for them. so don't just stick to one type.
the rocks you are looking for must be 1) large enough to include a core 2) be mostly yellow in scans 3) a more rounded shape.

Also diamonds. Hoping this works out. OH, and krandite or something. dunno. seems valuable. 400-ish K a pop.

the reason im not sharing my systems is because i dont want to have to find a new spot again
too many players delivering a single resource to a station will devalue that resource quickly, just 76 tons of void opals at my last system devalued the product by like 1000, and me and a friend of mine where constantly day in and day out running that loop over and over delivering a total of about 240 tons between the 2 of us each time we came back to port it went from 500,000 per unit down to below 300,000 per unit very fast (like 3 days). he went back to platnum mining after that, and because i like the iced over effect too much stayed with void opals and low temp diamonds.
From what I can tell, core asteroids are unique, and only respawn after a period of time. When I searched all around the hotspot, I founf Nothing, but when I went to the edge, I found some, and then I just traveled on and one towards an entirely Different hotspot, heading out of the actual hotspot I landed in. Sometimes I find no core asteroids for a worryingly long period, but then I do find one and it's another ~36 of, whatever. I feel like I'm scouting more than mining, but at least it's easier than it could be. I did rescue missions for the longest time, getting ~1 million per trip, and it was more profitable than my random bounty hunting, but I Enjoy random bounty hunting! I need something profitable on the side so I can enjoy the gameplay that doesn't pay.

Many of these look like core asteroids, but their bright colors fade as you approach. They also lack the distinctive red. I came across one small asteroid that was red, but it was just very, very mineral rich for it's size.

I thought all core asteroids spun, but I found one which was stationary.
I also found a rather small asteroid that had a core. It was, weird.. I could place charges, but the graph that shows the needed detonation power never appeared.
