Put where you are in the "reference system". Put icy and pristine in the appropriate boxes and search. That will tell you where the nearest pristine ice ring systems are.
Experience will help you be more efficient and consistent but I still kinda feel there's too much at play to guarantee the high payouts you see people claim. Mind you, 100mph is pretty good.
As for making sure the ring is pristine, sillily enough,,, idk how to tell if a ring is pristine or not.. I look through all the stats on an area, but I never see a stat that tells me the condition of the ring.
Also yes, I'm looking for ice rings. I'm AT an ice ring, void opal hotspot, and finding nothing. My guess is that it's depleted, but I can't find that stat anywhere, so I don't know.
You can look in the Pandhis system, there are several hotspots (Void Opals included), which are not depleted.
Most of all, I’d recommend a dark, mostly lightless ring, using night vision. This will help normalize asteroid glow from your pulse. Make sure to pulse the asteroid twice, you are looking for black splotches (in dark rings) which mark the asteroid as having a core.
Absolutely nothing beats experience, eventually you will learn to recognize potential asteroids and just as importantly, ones to avoid, just by their shape.
They didn't get hostile to me while I was there and I wasn't going to fly over to them and scan them since one was an Anaconda and the other was an AspX and I was in a lightly armed Phantom. After cracking my 3rd rock I decided to play it safe and go sell my loot.
Is this a normal thing when you just pick a random spot to mine?
I fly in, pick a direction, and fly. But nothing appears..
All you want is the "Reference System" which would be the system you are in most likely. Assuming that is where they are buying for 1.6 mill per ton. "Reference system" is at the bottom of the page. Than at top right is "Ring type" and "Reserve type". That all you want to enter is those three. Then click "Find Bodies" on the bottom right. Unless something very odd is going on it should find a fairly long list of them.
Also the same site is good to find stations that are buying and current buying price.
I have been using the Kraite Phantom for deep core mining. I think it is pretty near the perfect ship for the job. My highest paying trip was a bit over 150 mil. That took about an hour and a half. So good luck. It pays well.
You do have to chase the market. Eventually the market will crash near your mining site and you will need to relocate. While traveling to the closest selling station, I use the opportunity to prospect systems as I pass through them. If I find opal hotspots, I’ll bookmark for later reference.
I entered my location, selected pristine location, icy. But I get nothing.
