All new commander characters start (and stay) in the noob zone until they have got their first rank in combat, trade or exploration. once you get the first rank, you are offered a mission to a system outside the noob zone, once you take that mission and jump to your destination you are locked out of the noob zone forever.
This has been brought in to try and combat the brain-dead seal clubbers who hang around the old starter systems and used engineered battleconda's to beat on newbie's in sideys.
(Keybinds don't reset from updates… there are some reasons why that happens, but updates are rarely the cause.)
So why, before EVERY update, are people told to back up their key bindings in a separate folder.
1. maneuver similar to combat logging detected !!!
2.Defensive parameters engaged...
3.Deleting bindings in progress..
fly safe cmdr!
You guys must be hardcore to want to start over. I've been playing causally for years and couldn't imagine having to grind my way back to where I am.
I have 2 accounts, my son plays one and he's just messing around now. That's the one we reset. You're right I would not reset my account with billions and multiple ships and engineering now.
TO be fair, they've improved some of the grinding in some aspects. Money is easier to come by for one.
Grinding ranks however is not easier. It's harder.
actually, your experience with the game probably means that you would be back to where you are now in a third of the time.
i play casually (i get about 6 hours per week split between several games) my first play through it took me about 9 hours to buy my first Cobra Mk III. my second commander it took me about 3 hours.
