Audio option to remove sounds generated in space
I've been having fun with this game but there's one thing that I feel kills a ton of immersion for me, and that is the fact that you can hear stuff happen in space. The issue with this is that sound is unable to travel without an atmosphere and space is a giant atmosphere-less vacuum. I understand that having sound elements helps players to better understand what is going on around them and enjoy a more Blockbuster-esque experience, but I would like the option to remove these sounds, even if it handicaps me. I only want to be able to hear what I'm supposed to hear in my cockpit, including engine noises if it's near enough to said cockpit. I know my chances of this post getting noticed is better on the forums but I'd like to bring this up here first. Please consider this, Frontier, and thank you.

I would too. Creaking of the hull under stress, engines firing and little flecks of sound when hit by bullets, some sort of quiet buzzing 120Hz tone with lasers and a crash followed by creaking and shifting when hit by a missile.

Some of these things are already in, though you'd have to blow out your cockpit's glass cabin in order to experience the sounds.

Would be really really damn cool, I agree.

according to lore sounds are generated by the players ship to aid with awareNess.

check your audio settings. lots can be fiddled with.

Look in your sound options. Think there is one for sound effects. You'll lose all effects, but i think that is what you are actually after anyway.

In lore, the sounds are generated artificially as indeed, sounds are not made, but the eggheads discovered that people went crazy not hearing sounds so had the ships simulate them.

There you go, immersion restored ;)

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to fiddle with selective sound muting.

And according to Frontier they tried that internally for some time and found it was really boring and irritating :-D

Did you try muting the master sound effect volume?

Sound generation is tech in modern day cars. Its not unrealistic nor unimmersive. Those sounds would be very important for combat.

Some one posted a vid about frontier adding Real Sound captured by a Team of scientists , and they put them into this game.
The sounds from things like the sun and other planets , shooting stars etc.

Ah, that was about the radio astronomy bit of the game. Or rather the entirety of the new exploration system :awkward: But I love it.

They converted the frequency of the radio waves into sound waves of the same frequency and then tweaked it to be more audible.

Well you'll certainly get a similar effect if you have your cockpit canopy shot out. Might be worth testing of flicking life support off will produce a similar sound level.

suns are loud. even in a vacuum. there is an atmosphere there its just hydrogen and helium instead of oxygen.

You do not hear stuff happening in space, you are not in space, you are in your ship. You hear stuff happening in your ship. But there's an option...

I turned off the music long ago b/c it was too repetitive and for reasons you touched on about the sounds. My only beef with the sounds is that even with music off you still hear background sounds when on planets or sitting in local space. Kind of ruins it a bit.

I also turned off the following voiceovers:
  • Frameshift drive charging
  • 5 4 3 2 1
  • Fuel scooping
  • Fuel scooping complete

Once I did this I found exploring much more enjoyable.

Supercruise music is off but I left combat music on.

I didn't know that. That's pretty cool.

I still feel that there should be a way to selectively remove certain ambient and triggered sounds if they're outside the shuttle in any case. The "modern cars" might justify the sounds being audible in the first place but I would like an option for those of us who want to experience space for what it is audibly.
