Unable to communicate with authentication server?

I just bought the game and have been trying to log in to the server for about an hour with no luck, I can open the launcher no problem and launch the game it's self, but after the shaders load the game opens a menu for a split second then closes and says it is unable to communicate with authentication servers.
Then logs me out and closes the game. I googled the problem and no solutions I try seem to work. Does anyone have the same problem/some kind of solution? I've really wanted to get into this game for a long time and now it's getting frustrating.. Thanks in advance!

There was a burst of posts in another thread that ultimately led to people realising the servers were down. You may have just had unfortunate timing.

The same problem. I bought the game about 3 hours ago and couldn't connect. The developers mensioned some auth issues in twitter, probably it connected with it and will be fix soon, but anyway it's so sad situation.

The servers looks ok now, but auth problem on the same place.

GAH I hope so, I'm gonna try it again later, it says the server status is ok so fingers crossed its just a server issue

I bought the game this morning and have had the same problem all day. I have verified my system time is set to Internet time, I have shut off my anti-virus and even verified file integrity. Any help would be appreciated

At this moment the game works for me.

I had this problem and fixed it by selecting “Log Out Machine” from the options menu on the Elite Dangerous launcher.

Then I went to the Frontier Store selected “partner keys” from the account dashboard. It should give you an option to link steam to your frontier account with your steam login.

Then restart the ED launcher and login with steam. That got rid of the authentication error for me and the game fired up perfectly.

Hope that helps somebody because it took me forever to figure out what the issue was.
