None. By the time you have launched your fighter you can already be jumping. You're just wasting an internal slot.

if your ship are too fragile just use one Shield reinforcement module / Chaff Launcher to protect you until you jump

I agree. If you want to fight in a trader ship, just equip good weapons for rare engagements (low on ammo but high on damages). You will rearm them at a next station, anyways.

But don't waste your cargo space for a fighter. Fighting in a trader ship is generally not economically plausible. You can make more money by moving your cargo faster.

why not get sum good weapons instead? i got a couple of cannons engineered on my python not great jump range yet but pirates dont last long , lets just say they go out with a bang

Use a python as your trade ship and kill the interdicters

Not only does a fighter waste a slot but it also takes some of your profit.

If you're in a type 9, just boost away with 4 SYS pips and hope for the best, engineer your shields to improve survivability (my type 9 has 1000mj using a 5a prismatic, and a engine focused distributer to spam boost while having 4 pips in systems)

However if you want to fight, in a different trading ship, I would use reirbirating cascade torpedoes and packhounds. I dare any npc pirate to interdict my trading cutter. Lock on, fire and they have no shields, permanently. Then target their drives with packhounds and laugh maniacally. Then I'm out of ammo but its a trading ship so who cares.
If anything python is my go to for a armed freighter

My trade ship is a Clipper.

Catch me if you can.

Meep meep!

if you are going to fight while smuggling then you are doing it wrong
just submit to interdiction then boost and jump

Get a cutter, arm it to the teeth.

Against AI an expert pilot with GU97 (fixed beams) is enough to get away.

Shock Cannons!

If your plan is to escape you might also consider to jettison 1T of cargo. The pirate will stop to pick it up and it will buy you enough time to jump away. Not sure if this works with assasins too.

If you deploy a fighter and then jump out you will have to replace that fighter later which will probably cost more than 1 unit of your cargo.

A hauler armed to the teeth with shock cannons is also a neat idea :)
