5000 Ly Palin trip : 2 Questions please

Hello,

I am actually grinding it. It will take me roughly 2H30 to complete it, if i do a one way-trip, and twice if i actually come back.

I'd like to know 2 things :

1. If i commit suicide after reached the 5K Ly point, will i still have my discovery data?
2. When i commit suicide, where do i respawn?

If you simply travel 5kly away from Sol and blow yourself up, you'll lose the data. There are however stations you can dock at, sell your data and then suicide.

Where you respawn depends on the option you choose. If you rebuy your ship, you'll be in the last place you docked with the ship as it was. If you choose the starting sidewinder, you lose your ship but spawn where you started the game.

On the first point though, there are stations but they are not everywhere. You will find them at certain places like nebula.

Anyway, Eddb will tell me the closest one.. I may find one in a 500Ly radius no?

I would look for the station and head roughly in that direction rather than fly somewhere random and hope to find one nearby. If you do the latter, you could end up 1kly or more from a station.

You may or may not need to travel slightly beyond them until you are 5kly from your start system.

I'm fckd xD Eddb doesnt even find the system where i'm heading at. I've typed the closest name from that location, and it tell me the closest station is at 3300 Ly away

I'm going for BLAU EUR UF-W C15-36

Will see what i'm doing when i get there... Its a lot of times.. Since i'm just Honking into system, i do really wonder if the data worth the time spend to get back..

With void Opal i can get 360Million Credit in one run of 1H30..

I highly doubt that facepalm-scanning and running that 5000Ly trip will earn me more or even close to that.

Heh, I thought you were at the planning stage. If money is your only concern about the data, it might not be a big deal but it really depends on what you found and how thorough you were. What would bug me more is not having the system data in my galaxy map.

I still have a question for you, since you kindly help me with your knowledge.

Is Station and population only in Inner Orion Spur? Or i can find the same amount of population/station/faction and activities in other part like : Hawking's Gap, Temple, Elysian Shore etc..?

Yes, the map filter works across the galaxy. Allegiance and population are good ways to find systems with stations.

Edit: Though I'm not sure I have answered the question. Yes, there are stations in distant parts of the galaxy but they are really only in specific locations like I said earlier about nebula. Not all nebula have a station near them though and no doubt some sectors have no stations at all.

If you are looking to simply unlock the engineer and not worried about the loss of data you can suicide.

However, check they have unlocked by going to the engineer screen before doing the suicide. Would be a tragic if you did it but still needed just a few more LY to active it.

I'm fairly sure Palin sends you a message as soon as you exit the jump to a system that meets the requirement. Was quite some time ago I unlocked him though.
