Haven't flown the Type-6, but I can tell you that on the plus side the Type-7 does have excellent maneuverability for a cargo ship of its size (probably because it's just barely too big for the medium hangar), and is one of the few ships that has identical yaw and pitch rates. Its jump range was buffed awhile back too, so it's decent for a cargo ship. It's still a slow hulk in normal space, though not as slow as the Type-9 or Type-10, at least.
only problem with type 7 does not have med hard points to do deep core mining.
type 7 engineered 50Ly plus
For mining get a Python or a Krait Mk2. Python's a bit slower, and not as maneuverable, but has slightly more cargo room while the Krait's more nimble and faster, and has the added bonus of being able to carry a fighter to protect you.
Cheiftain's also an okay choice for mining and trading, it's comparable to the T7
Right around 25mil atm.
Interesting, never thought of making it a passenger hauler. It's ugly for that job though. I have a weird roleplaying thing that goes on in my subconscious that would make it hard for me to turn a Type-7 into a passenger ship. I have a Dolphin I run passengers in from time to time when I get tired of cargo missions, and a Chieftain I bounty hunt in when I get tired. So I kind of play three roles that all feel different to me so I dont' get bored. If possible, I would like to keep the Type-7, if I bought one, as cargo hauler.
The Type 7 could be an upgrade but it is essentially the same as the type 6 but bigger. Plus it requires a large landing pad that some outposts won't have, so it is more limiting in that way. I would probably make more credits with the type 6 and get the Python.
You might find stacked short distance passenger sightseeing/transport missions with the type 6 are quick & lucrative depending on your rep with factions in systems you pick to run missions from.
Otherwise, the Type 6 is a damn fine little ship - if you wanna keep doing outpost runs, saving for the Python is a solid choice. Just keep in mind the price tag equipped for combat is several times the sticker price - but totally worth it. Outfitted and engineered, the Python can take those 180 ton missions and still take on any ship the AI can send at you.
How much cargo does your Type 6 hold?
How big is the jump range you get?
Is your Type 6 maxed out, engineered, or say mid spec?
Have you been doing 'Rares' Trading runs? I managed almost a 1 Mil run, with max. cargo of 80t in AspX.
100t at.
27ly unladen and around 20 laden, i can't rememebr off hand. It might be 19ly laden.
I haven't engineered anything on it as I never planned on keeping it long.
Haven't done any rares trading yet. I'm not entirely sure what that is so I'll have to look it up. 1 almost always get missions that pay well over a mil from missions and they're generally just one hop. This is why I have been on the fence about the Type-7 I think.
When you do bulk passengers, and if I bought the type-7 for this, what cabins should I stick in it? Also, do you spend time trying to get passengers all the to same place more or less? or just pick them all up and drop them off schoolbus style?
Rock on thanks. I think I will if for nothing else than to be flying a new ship. Much appreciated.
