I tried to play ED couple times in VR but it was not playable for me (I don't like playing blindly from keyboard, and joystick is my nemesis in any kind of game), hopefully this will fix it.
P.S. there is a convulted manual for Oculus:
https://github.com/dantman/elite-vr-cockpit/blob/master/OCULUS-WORKAROUND.md
Basically you need to force it to work from under steamVR instead of directly from Oculus SDK. But haven't tryed myself yet, will wait till new year.
but even so, it does simulate the cockpit hotas which is really immersive and cool, but in the end, not really viable unless you want to play slow and steady and ram everything now and then.
the oculus controllers are just the same with elite, not really good. half of the functions are not working and if you try to remap keybindings, the game spazzes out. i was forced to abandon them and try controller, which is not perfect but makes it playable.
it is disappointing that Frontier doesnt give a piss about the VR state and it never improved upon the concept.
3/4 people i met all purchased 60-150$ HOTAS setups and the game perfectly caters to those. but HEY, you purchased a 450$ piece to support the future of gaming? F##K uuuuuuuuuuuuu
all i want are floaty buttons and a map i can interact with VR controllers....
if it dont work right one way there is sometimes emulations out there that make things work better.
not sure if i used the right wording but i hope you can see what i am trying to say and that might give you a idea you never thought of ?
good luck cmder o7
Generaly everything that plays at vive also plays at oculus.
If I understand correctly, issue is that this specific game supports oculus by default and forcefully switches to oculus SDK thus it doesn't allow usage of 'cockpit overlay' made for steam VR. Oculus works with SteamVR just fine, the bigest issue I encountered so far using Oculus on steamVR: controls sometimes are uncomfortable.
P.S. I don't understand why there is no VR controller support at all in Elite Dangerous(
i appreciate the attempt, but i think even a 12 y/o these days knows how to youtube stuff.
His, was the first video i found.
