Don't worry about the wording btw, I just feel like and idiot for probably missing something
You'll need to face 180° away from the star (look for the Escape Vector when charging) and enter supercruise then fly away from the star for a good few seconds before heading back towards your intended target.
If you've got an obscured target make sure you deselect it first.
Oh dear god.
Okay maybe courier jobs aren't for me. 6 more minutes.
Turns out that I was pointed right at it...and if I were to continue on in hypercruise, I'd have slammed into it. So it'd drop me out early instead. Because I was going too fast, ignoring the blue safe zone and my ship would continually slap me back to thruster speed to save us both the possible trauma.
Is this what you're experiencing?
Try nosing down and pointing a bit underneath your intended station before attempting to enter hypercruise (pressing J). Anywhere but directly at the station.
Yeah I remember it being a pain to learn how to travel right, but once you get it, you'll laugh at your ignorant self for having been so clueless. It really does get a lot easier.
