Fixed, Turreted, and Gimballed?
So what's the general difference about each one? And which one overall is better to use?

I have been using the Gimballed ones at the moment. Though have had Fixed Primary A '1' and Gimballed Primary A '2'.

A fixed weapon will out damage it's gimballed sibling of the same size, and likewise with turrets. There are a lot of scenarios where what is optimal changes. If you have good hard point convergence and don't have/need a lot of time on target, fixed is superior. If your convergence is crap then mixing gimballed in would be a good idea. If you are mixing hit scan weapons with projectile weapons them gimbaling some might be a good idea.

Fixed: highest damage, lowest weight/power
not recommended for new pilots or sustained damage weapons

Gimbaled: medium stats and utility
will aim at your target if they are within a 45 degree cone extending from the weapon and adjust for travel time movement
recommended in most situations

Turreted: lowest damage, highest weight, power, and cost (2-4x cost of gimballed)
will aim at your target if weapon has line of sight.
usually only recommended for very slow ships with large hardpoints due to very low damage and high cost. Is the only type of weapon that can be used by other cmdrs in multi-crew.

I generally go with gimballs except for:

Fixed for PAs (since they only come in fixed)

Turrets on big ships or for when i'm wanting constant engineer debuff applying. For example, a size 1 efficient pulse with scramble spectrum can be a larf. Also high capacity corrosive MC can also be cool.

I'm no professional combat pilot so I tend to stick to gimballed, however if I have enough hardpoints for it I will run 1 or 2 fixed for when the chaff comes out, (plasma, rails or seakers).

A weaker gimballed weapon that is hitting its target will do more damage then a fixed that isn't hitting.

Iv never found a good use for turrets though, even on my Conda I can turn the ship onto the target faster then the turret comes around, if all I wanted to do was run a broadside then it could work but not when I want to get that class 4 plasma on target.

I'm currently running with one fixed gun and the rest gimballed so I can practice my aim. Like the others said, fixed does more damage but if you suck like me gimballed guns kill things better since they actually hit.

when chaff comes out just untarget and use the gimbaled as a fixed
