Can you buy the panite to unlock Selene Jean?

Amazingly I cant find a answer to this on google, does anyone know if its possible or does it have to be mined by you? (I've already mined 500t of ore previously and just want to know if I can buy it and deliver it to her to full-fill the final obligation)

Sorry I didn't save you from mining it, though. :)

Look for overlapping painite hotspots and try to mine at that spot - you should double your chances to find painite asteroids.

One of these is at Hyades sector DB-X d-1 112. Look for a water world with rings, much smaller than the gas Giants in the system

the last 2 engineers i went for were professor palin and the one that requires you to mine a bunch of minerals. honestly i dont know why i waitied so long but in a way im kind of glad that i did the distance one took roughly an hour and a half. around 80 to 90 jumps to hit 5k lightyears. and then i used a special mining rigged anaconda for the other part. and you should have it in no time. go belt mining the correct type of resource may produce it too. use the bodies tab to find hotspots for painite. just make sure u know what kind of rings you need. pristine is best. sometimes you can get lucky with certain things and find them in the market but according the the commodities tab in eddb.io painite is currently not being sold anywhere.

I appreciate the advice, I loaded up my Krait Phantom as a scout miner (Still getting 49 light year jump range o.0) hit the suggested system and found the ring in question, first rock 32% painite, 3 minutes in had 7 tons and about 20 floating fragments when I lost my connection to the transaction server (Gah!), spawn back in, had Krait mk II pirate spawn with me and the chase through the asteroids ensued, lost him, next roid I checked 40% panite, finished mining, and left. All told the entire adventure took maybe 30 mins from outfit to touchdown at Selene.

Fun quick little adventure and now my FDL is on the way to get its reactive armor light weighted and deep plated. Thank you everyone for your help, great little system and I look forward to going back and seeing what kind of haul (And how long it takes) from laser mining painite compared to the void opals I've been so used to lately.
