Is it possible to unlock both the corvette and the imperial cutter?
Is it possible to unlock both the corvette and the imperial cutter?

Ive unlocked the corvette.

If i start fighting for the Empire, doing things to improve their rank.. Will I lose federal rank?

If yes, then how can I keep both ships?

You will never lose superpower rank but you will lose superpower rep which can be built up again without any issues.

You can have both ships, I know because I have both the Corvette and the Cutter.

Unpopular opinion: I wish it was more like Frontier, where you picked a side and progression for the other side got harder and harder.

Agony, no, because you are not choosing a side. The rank, the one you skill, is, kinda, how their navy see you capable of complete task for them. It's like if you are a mercenary and they want to know what skill you have. If you are a Duke the empire will know that you are a reliabe commander capable of complete important external tasks for the navy, tasks that require to not draw attention with imperial or federal forces. Think about star wars for the example. How many times you have seen the empire asking mandalorians to make mission for them. And the same happen to the alliance or the republic. Sides that doesn't want to let see the enemies their strategy. So they take external people, "neutral" guys who make the job for them with with discretion.

I like AA's idea b/c it adds a bit of RP to the mix. However it seems in ED we are all freelancers.

well, If frontier MADE me choose,I would choose the vette. The cutter IS king for hauling but really it lacks firepower for such a large ship and takes too long to kill. and distributor power now that i think of it. but it sure is pretty.I have 2 cutters and thinking about a second vette. I leave them at locations I work at and just taxi back and forth

well what it lacks in firepower and maneuverability makes up for with a higher mass stopping almost all ships from escaping quickly (of course going to another system overrides this but will take tad longer than to engage super cruise), massive shields, and a much much superior speed, so a corvette has no chance of easily fleeing, and the cutter can escape it easily, as far as combat goes you can smoothly drift with a cutter off range spamming railguns on most encounters if you manage to get used to its awkward handling

True...but the thing is ...I would rather have the ship I did NOT have to think of running away in.

I've not done a proper comparison of DPS vs Shields on the vette vs cutter (whether they equalize, or if one wins). I know that I generally use my vette in large ships duels, only because it's less annoying for most people to fight (most people don't like having to boost/chase). I generally use my Cutter for wing fights (due to the speed, range, ease of targeting, and shields).
