Private Data Beacon is stuck onto piece of debris in space [solved, thx]

I can scan it, but can't scoop it. I need to scoop it for the mission. What do?

Update: Nevermind. I forgot that the first I scooped was a black box. Herp derp.

Update 2: Several have now told me by now that data beacons have never been scoopable, but black boxes are scoopable. Thank you everyone.

Get as close as possible <100m and scan it

If it's for the mission, you can always jump out and back in, or relogin - it may put it in a different, more accessible spot. Mission signals will be regenerated until you scoop enough of items.

I don't think you were ever supposed to scoop those beacons. Do you have a screenshot of the mission?

I scooped the first beacon. The one in question is the second and no, I don't have a screenshot.

Black Boxes you scoop. Beacons, you only need to scan.

As I understand it you can only scan a data beacon ( The data you receive will be shown in your comms panel). Read the mission requirements again - the requirement to scoop may be for a different commodity that is floating around the debris which contains the data beacon

You need to be in a SRV, aim at and select the data beacon (Fire 2 button) hold down the fire 2 button until it finishes scanning.

I failed to mention I was in space when I was doing the mission. But I'll keep this in mind if I ever buy the Horizons DLC. Thanks!
