Combat starter ship
Whats a good starter ship to learn and practice combat and do bountyhunting/missions around 90m budget?

I'm thinking the Krait Mk. II. Balanced, decent firepower, easy to shoot things with. The other go-tos would be a Chieftain or an FDL. The Chieftain will hold your hand when it comes to maneuvering but the hardpoints are a little awkward. The FDL would be for if you want to start in the deep end so you avoid getting into bad habits in easier ships.

Vulture, Federal Assault Ship (if you have the rank) or Chieftain.

You are not supposed to learn combat in a high rebuy ship though. 90 mil is a lot. Usually people start with a Viper 3, Cobra 3 or even Eagle. At least that's how it used to be before void opals.

with 90m a Vulture its cheap and you can buy a ton of them with 90m or a Chieftain.
90 Mil, a starter ship... You can get and outfit a Python pretty well in that price range (in a LYR space)!

Eagle.

The entry-level combat ship is definitely the Vulture. Tempting though it may be to go for like a Viper to start off with, the Vipers are actually fairly high skill ships, and benefit from crackshot weapons like Rails, where as the Vulture is the first warship that can brute-force hull while you learn combat. Making it the ideal starter combat ship.

I think it's important to start in a small ship and get good, because when you transition to a big boi ship, you'll need to remember all the tactics you used in your small ship, before you come screaming on the forums why your anaconda can't sight down the stupid little eagle. At least then you'll know, and ideally, know how the counterplay (hint: Boost FA OFF)

Kitted out krait is around 250m.

I would go for the Vulture OP - engineer beam lasers on it and it can easy take on larger ships - it's what I started on and would deffo recommend it.

Vulture. Great lateral thrusters which make it much easier to maintain a good position on a target once established. Punches above it's weight. Has some trouble with smaller ships because the vulture is an inside brawler. Very power hungry. Module management is a must.
It is my favourite combat ship.

I second that choice.

The relatively weak hull forces you to learn evasive maneuvers, while the lower damage output encourages you to fight smart, not hard.

Don't listen to these multibillionaires with cool engineered ships. Cobra or Viper is all you need to learn how to fight. I suggest you to try out cqc from time to time, but try to avoid sitting there for too long, since it's quite unfair gamemode. Cobra is very nice ship, decently fast, has nice maneuverability, quite low profile it is. But it has weak hardpoints. Viper is slightly faster and better in dogfight, however its combat-only ship. Using it for traveling or any other purpose - waste of time and effort.

Cobra or Viper, mate. Other ships are expensive af and won't give you any feeling of challenge.

Go with the eagle. Hear me out on this. When it comes to combat the worst position you can be in is getting shot without any way to respond, the second worst is being shot in where you can respond. The eagle is cheap as dirt and has the agility to help you get used to positioning, which is key to really getting good at and enjoying combat. If you just build to tank blows and slug it out combat can become a slog and even counter productive if you are losing trades.

Combat should be broken down into 3 steps.
1. Get into a position affording you dominance.
2. Assert said dominance right up your targets exhaust vent.
3. Find new target

This is easy in RES before you open up on someone, but once the fighting starts you want to know how to do this when your opponent is actively trying to kill you. Becoming proficient with the eagle will help you learn this, and when you fail your bank account wont take such a nasty hit.

Just because it hasn't been mentioned yet, the Imperial Courier makes a fantasic little combat ship as well.

The amount of shields you can pack on that thing is insane as well for its size.
