Spoiler: no.
Well, look at Mr. Moneybags over here! :P
Seriously, these days you can get a million just stacking a few courier missions to the next system over.
Take out a few pirates and you'll have a million if they are high ranked (follow the police around, let them help you).
Or, as is popular at the moment, mining. You can be in an Anaconda within a week... not that you'll have a clue what to do with one once you have it and you won't have a clue how to fly it, but you can have one.
I have hundreds of millions.
I am exploring with a Badger near Colonia and I like it.
So, either Badger is a mistranslation, or you have some kink you probably don't want to be sharing publicly :P
Then don't grind. Just do what you like in the game.
But if there is nothing that you would like to do from the beginning of the game, then maybe it's just the game that you don't like.
I have the cheap hauler with basic cargo upgrade, so i think that mining void opals is out of reach for me.
I barely can jump up to 6 LY so i can not accomplish most of basic cargo/messenger quests.
I love the SVR rally though.
I will try some basic mining... this is the most difficult vr game i have played so far.
And honestly, I wouldn't spend much time with the Hauler. It's not all that great. Get any ship to maybe 10 Ly jump range (a range that lets you conveniently go to most places), do a few easy missions or "steal" kills from the cops in resource extraction sites. See that you upgrade to a Viper Mk3 or an Adder. Something like https://s.orbis.zone/4etg should give you great range and a good idea of mining at a decent price if you want to pursue that career.
Core mining is where it's at, and not just opals, nearly all core stuff is big credits, the low end being 700 or 800 credits, the high end stuff being 1.2 to 1.6 million.
Last load in my Type 9 took me under 5 hours to collect,
651 tons of goodies, 765.5 million.
