Elite Dangerous

This game has become a buggy disaster.
What a day. Let's see. That's two Mauve Adder errors, finding out that co-op deep core mining literally doesn't work (charges instantly detonate on contact if another player is in your wing), and after two hours of mining, the game lurch-stutters right as I try to land and I get caught *inside the ground* and explode, losing a hold full of void opals. I'm probably not supposed to see the bizarre criss-crossing pattern beneath the planet.

All that in one four hour session of gameplay. Oh, and apparently the instant-detonating charges have been happening for nearly a solid year, according to issue tracker, and have yet to be fixed. But hey, we've got Chinese FTP-esque premium currency now.

Oh boy, I'm incensed. That's perhaps 20 crashes in three days of play. But none of the bugs have cost me 50,000,000cr + like this one has, so that's the cherry right there on top. That might be the last straw for me.

Nearly everyone is having problems. Crashes with obscure error codes are everywhere. Before this patch, crashes were an extraordinary rarity - at least for me as well as my wife.

The lag-stutter smash through the ground is probably just a wildcard. Not the first time I've had a lag-stutter on planets, but it's the first time I've gone through the planet. I'm literally trembling with anger at this stupid game right now. I just wanted to vent. I'm done. That's it.

I will say that I feel sorry for the new players brought in by the sale right now. The game's not usually in such a sorry state, but they won't know that.

EDIT: God, I just added that up. That was more than 100,000,000cr I lost.

EDIT EDIT: It's in part to the stupid hitbox of the Krait. Those sensors on each side seem to have a hitbox. I assume they clipped into the ground after I lag-stuttered on final approach, and I vibrated myself to death.

Latest patch or before that? If they could fix it on their end, and suddenly everything works without crashes, then it's got to be a player data issue introduced by the patch. It's crashing for both myself and my wife. Probably 20 crashes in all on her end, at least, and I'm guessing I'm not far from that myself.

I don't know. I'm convinced that the patch is a spaghetti code disaster, but it's okay - either way, I've lost my appetite to play this game for the foreseeable future. To lose all that effort in such a way just makes me sick to my stomach. It's not the first time I've gotten stuck in geometry and exploded. It *is* the first time I lost this much money in the doing of it, though.

I appreciate your patience and not jumping down my throat, anyway. I know I was raging pretty hard. I'm just going to let this thing go and see what's happening on the other side of the fence. It can't be much more miserable than this.

I'm still experiencing a large number of issues as well:

  • Reticle STILL randomly disappears. Also now disappears when leaving a planet into SC.

  • When switching ships module list is merged causing you to see modules from the last ship but when you click details on them it is blank

  • Charged for murder of a pilot yet I did not destroy them. Confirmed I did not and no notoriety issued yet still got the bounty increase for murder. Makes no sense. I clearly did not destroy the ship b/c I received no notoriety.

  • AI wings are attacking one ship instead of separating and attacking various ones like they use to. It is hilarious watching NPC wings of 4 try to destroy one lone ship while ten other bad guys are shooting at them.

  • If you go to Interstellar Factors and clear your bounties the menu gets stuck. Similar to the multi-thread UI crash we had some time ago. Happens every time, all the time.

  • When dropping into local there are times when the boost sound does not play correctly. Then in the middle of a boost it decides to play and it is extremely loud.

  • Limpets are still dumb as rocks. Some void opals and other minerals are still getting stuck inside asteroids.

  • Pulse Wave Scanner is not consistent and highlights asteroids from a distance but when you get closer that asteroid is not highlighted.

  • Pulse Wave Scanner readout is bleeding over into asteroids that are nearby making it look like other asteroids are highlighted yet are not

  • AI pitch rate and turn rate seems off. A Conda was able to out pitch my FDL even when using attitude thrusters. He was flopping the thing all over the place which is simply impossible for a player to do.

  • NPCs in SC are sitll acting weird and orbiting one another and in general acting strange

  • NPCs are FSD'ing out of local without notification the FSD is charging. They are also FSD'ing out without being lined up with a destination. Had one in an uncontrolled pitch state simply FSD out which is impossible.

  • NPCs in SC are still acting strange when you follow for interdiction. They start almost stopped and when you get near they hit some kind of NPC afterburner b/c when you get behind them they leave you in the dust.

  • Mining hotspots are not showing up on the rings of planets in certain systems.

  • The seismic charges are behaving very oddly. If you follow the strength of the fissures you will either be under or over. If you ignore the strengths and just guesstimate how much force you need it seems to work. Why call a fissure medium if the indicated force is the cumulative amount needed? Then I can put a strong charge on a weak fissure and a weak charge on a strong fissure so long as total force <= force required. It makes zero sense.

This raises the amount of games I've gotten back into right after a buggy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ update to two.
First time was the No Man's Sky Beyond update. Their poor decision to switch from OpenGL (which worked fine) to Vulkan made the game leak memory like a sieve and caused endless bugs.
Now this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. ED for me regularly softlocks within an hour of gameplay - graphics freeze but sound indicates I'm still in control. Logs are useless, no error code - just "unclean exit, idk lmfao.'
ROLLBACK.

Only done mining recently but everything working normally there for me.

I started playing NMS a few days before the release of beyond. The bugs are very annoying, but they have mostly been fixed. For Elite , give it about a month and most critical bugs should be fixed by then. Since the april update went to **** (bug wise) and this one as well, I am worried about the rollout of future updates.

Hahahaha, you've got my sides hurting. Guess which game I thought I'd go back to so I could get away from this mess? Ugh, space games hate me almost as much as I love them. Vulkan....isn't such a grand experiment. So many games are starting to require it rather than offer it as an option, and are suffering badly for it. The Surge 2 comes to mind. Performance in NMS is not where it should be, and you really do start to notice the issues more and more as you play in a single session. *sigh*

Elite's lockups give literal error "codes," which are entirely unhelpful to us, and judging from the quality of Frontier's QA, possibly the developers as well. I've been getting a veritable rainbow of error codes. Black Adders, Mauve, Taupe I think. I wonder if there's a Chartreuse Anaconda or a Fuschia Taipan just waiting to be discovered.

I'm still sticking with NMS, though, poor performance and all. I'm a grown man. I don't throw controllers. I almost did today.

Do you do it in a wing? If you deep-core mine with someone in your wing, it's utterly broken for the vast majority of people. This has been on the issue tracker since *December.* I only figured this out today. I'm slow on the uptake, because I've only recently come back to Elite. Imagine my surprise at the state it's in, and that they haven't fixed this nearly a year later.

This really isn't an Elite: Dangerous hate-brigade kind of thing. Yes, I'm still furious that I lost out on four hours of income due to a completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bug. I can't help that. But c'mon, the amount of bugs *is* ridiculous. And a lot of these are from months - MONTHS - ago! I'm not mad for no reason, here!

Don't worry, they will be buggy, as well. And then, after several weeks, most of the bugs will be ironed out, and the game will be rock-solid again. To your relief, updates don't happen often. ;)

Another one:

When leaving local and jumping to SC weapons and other non SC modules are showing up in the UI. If you then try to deploy them they disappear and can no longer be switched back to. They should disappear when you jump into SC since weapons and other local modules like limpets, etc cannot be used in SC.
MasterManiac (Banned) Sep 30, 2019 @ 12:07am
The modules list is bugged in general. Switch out a module, and power priority is borked until you exit back to menu and return to game. If you try to change the priority of a module, it'll visually change the priority of the nearest module without seemingly changing the priority for either item.

The UI seems to be very badly impacted. This is pure conjecture with not a shred of proof to back it up - but it all just distinctly feels like they simply sandwiched in a bunch of new code with little regard for how well it's going to interact with the old code. I'm reminded of my own sloppy, amateurish attempts to copy-paste blocks of pre-made code into existing files, which would often insert incorrect spaces and break syntax, causing general mayhem.

Also, getting randomly charged with assault or murder is far from an uncommon occurrence. Nothing new on that front.

I've seen NPC's charging FSD *while firing weapons.* I've been continually shot at by zombie enemies with zero hull. *Frequently* this has occurred. I get crash-to-main-menu error codes for handling cargo, trying divvy up hauls with my wife. Deep-core mining with friends isn't *guaranteed* to break, but it does so most of the time, for a great number of people. Of all the problems, it's egregious this one in particular hasn't been addressed.

Fixing all this is going to be such a titanic effort, I wonder if the devs will simply throw their hands up in surrender. At the very least, any new feature developments are probably going to be significantly impacted or delayed. So much is going wrong, all at once, and it's very concerning.

its strange i have only experienced the stuttering in large battles and assumed my pc was just not good enough other than that no bugs and why not use a docking computer losing 50 million cos you want to be hard core seems crazy anyway i hope you just had a bad day and it wont be so bad next time you fly
Hobo Misanthropus Sep 30, 2019 @ 1:01am
Man, some of these issues were present when I stopped playing in May.
ZombieHunter Sep 30, 2019 @ 1:01am
Broken spec ops contracts. Kill 12 civvies. Easy right? You jump in to the area and start firing on the targets. They immediately boost and FSD before you can kill them. Good luck killing anything better than a Sidewinder.

And yes I've been seeing more and more NPCs FSD charging while firing at me and also entering FSD while firing on me.

Vulure AI seems to be broken. I can get into a a 'death dance' with them in my FSL where they are in front of me and I'm constantly holding down thrust while maintaining throttle. The Vultures will not fire on me and will just sit there and die.

Maybe they wouldn't fire cause they can't keep you in their weapon's target cross? I usually fly that way to avoid being hit by plasmas/rails. But at least they fire those at me. Maybe there is a particular weapon that they don't want to fire in this situation.
