EDDI? (Custom Computer Voice)
So I've heard EDDI lets people create custom voice packs for their ships, and now I'm curious..
First off, is this a bannable offense from Frontier's perspective?
And secondly, are there awesome example of this being done with science fiction characters?

Hmm.. not sure what you've heard, but there are limits.

Basically EDDI started out life as a plugin for voice attack but now can run standalone. Combined with voice attack it can do some fancy stuff, but can also do some fancy stuff by itself.

Voice Attack has a vareity of voices for it (that you buy) with prerecorded words, phrases, and sentences, some recorded by very famous sci-fi people.

EDDI by itself can only use SAPI5 voices. These include those that come as standard with Windows (and extras you can unlock with some registry edits or by adding other languages). There are also some third party SAPI5 voices you can buy... or otherwise obtain. There are some free ones out there that i found, but they are pants.

Its not bannable to use them.

EDDI usually (by itself) will only use 1 voice that you select. You can also use SAPI5 voices with the G19s App for ED (you don't need a G19s to use it) which will simulate space traffic for you, which is quite cool.

Wow! Thanks for the detailed response! It's a bit technical, but I think I understood most of that.

I've tried googling a few examples of the program in use, but so far I've come up dry. I know the program is popular enough so there must be whole collections of videos and examples, but I just haven't tracked them down (yet)

Sorry can't help you further. I use EDDI, but without voice attack. I do own voice attack, i've just never been bothered to use it... silly of me really.

Elite G19s has a ton of functions, including traffic control and AI tts voices.
(G19s keyboard not needed)
Elite G19s Companion app (with simulated space traffic control)[forums.frontier.co.uk]

Using HCS + EDDI + VA + EG19sCa can extend the immersiveness even further:

Lastly, some of the guys here on the forum knows quite a bit about getting VA to work with EDDI etc, there is a good thread about it here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/359320/discussions/0/2763442118813356200/?tscn=1566719005

One thing i like about G19s is you can set it to use all the voices you have installed.

The only thing i recommend is changing the parameters on the voices it can use.

There are two ranges you can set for each voice, pitich and speed. IIRC, by default they are both set at 0 to 2, which means you end up with some fast high pitched voices like mickey mouse.

I change them all to be -1 to 1, creating some nice variations, but eliminating the more silly results.

If you want to try EDDI as a standalone, it is great. As noted, it will only use available voices that are already on your pc voice engine. This can be grating if you have a crappy pc voice.

Elite generates a lot of in game events. Things like releasing docking clamps, entering a no fire zone - these are 2 of 197 separate events available that allow EDDI to read the event, and react to it. Within these events, information is broken down so that you can access it.

Theres no instruction sheet that I found, and I crawled through the reddit, githib and voice attack forums. There are bits and pieces and example codes and other information, but not a detailed how to do this or that. The other problem was that there was no other interpretation of what to do; if you didn't fully understand what it was saying, there was no other source to go to, to approach it from a different perspective.

You'd need to commit a bit of time to getting it going, not a lot, but once its integrated, it really is like a ship computer. A basic one, but if you wanted chit chat as well as some awesome functions, you'd upgrade to EDDI with voice attack. With voice attack comes EDDI triggers...and my Goodness, they are ball tinglingly good. You can have a certain level of automation with the triggers, and have the computer tell you what its doing. You can combine them as well. Fab.

I'm out exploring at the mo, and created a new trigger. When I'm in using the fss mode, once all the bodies are discovered, the trigger is activated and I get told all bodies found (including the actual number of bodies), then automatically the view switches back out from the fss to normal view, the throttle is maxxed, and the fsd booted. She says, moving on, or onwards, or heading to next system. I'm liking it.

Try it and see. Ask if you have any issues.

Thanks for the comments above. I've been researching into VA and EDDI which brought me here :).

I also use the Elite G19 app and can say there's nothing else like it. It really adds a lot of immersion to the game, more than I've seen on any other game to be honest.

I have a G19 so sorry if this doesn't apply if you haven't got a keyboard, but once you've downloaded Elite G19s, try to download logitech arx from the play store on your phone and/or tablets, then the Elite G19s app works with all those as well!

Here are my 4 devices on wifi, two are on g19s app, one on arx system monitor and one on roccat.

Edit Ps, the angle isn't in the middle for that photo. I swivelled my chair round to take that, so i could capture the roccat phone as well as the 3 logitech arx devices. Nornally, the front two phones are above each leg which go to the foot pedals, with the 10 inch tablet in the middle.

Fly safe. CMDR Evolution

You don't need a G19s to use the G19s app.
